Service Pack?

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

Hello all,
recently I downloaded the fsx_sp1_ENU.exe file off the Microsoft web site. But it told me that the file was not a valid win32 application when I tried to run it from my hard drive.

What have I done wrong?

I figured that I need the service pack but I am not sure if the download failed or something else is wrong.

The file is 201, 338 kb in size. The download took ages with dialup and I am not to keen to do it again, but...

Thank for any help!

hmmm is likely to be a corrupted download unfortunately :(

However-
a) What type of computer are you running? (motherboard drivers in particular?) I had a heap of trouble caused by a (totally cr*p) Nvidia Firewall app which was corrupting my downloads....
b) What OS are you running? Did you download the correct service pack version? (I cant remember if there was a 64 bit and 32bit version?)

b) Was the file zipped? if so, extract it first and then run

If that fails and you cant be bothered downloading it again, Id highly recommend buying FSX Acceleration- As well as the cool addons it includes all the service packs to get your FSX install running optimally

Definitely persist and get it working though- The service packs are very useful

Hello Timmo. I will check to see if I downloaded the wrong version. I have Windows XP professional is this the 64 bit version?

FSX Acceleration is a bit to much for my budget right now as I just got FSX Deluxe recently and it has only been installed a few hours.
Mind you the young-ones and their dad (me) are sure pleased with the result. I think it is a big improvement on the previous versions.

I have had no trouble running it but I like to update software as soon as I can because the updates (service packs etc) are there for a reason.
I downloaded the file the other day in preparation for when FSX arrived.

I will try to get FSX Acceleration in a few weeks time.

Thanks for the help and suggestions!

I second the comments, definitely install SP1 AND SP2, even if they do take some time to download (that is unless you do get Acceleration). The service packs are virtually essential to get good frame rates with FSX, so try downloading them again.

smooth landings.

I finally managed to download and install it, but the download at the Microsoft site wouldn't work.
This is the one that worked:

Now all I have to download the next file. :D

Thanks for the help!
