Why do you say that? Wifeys Golf is creeping over the 260 000km mark with no major issues. Gets over 1000km's a week on it with her travelling to work/Uni in Hamilton.
Not kidding when I say that parts for it (OEM, not cheap repro's) are within 5% of the price for a similar year Corolla.
Same goes for my Alfa's... Both are in excess of the 200 000km mark, one was a track car for 8yrs. No issues with either of them, and again parts are cheap![]()
Its a commonly held belief that may have had some truth in it during the early 90's, but the truth is that there is negligible difference between Euro's and Jappa's these days.

Why's that? Dad's Merc ML270 CDI is still running sweet after circa 260,000kms. I would much rather a European Car over a Jappa.
I've always thought of Pugs as old ladies cars (Well I guess I have 2 old crazy auntie that drive them) but this one actually looks decent with wheels+exhaust+kit, plus it will be reliable, safe, and not too fast. I'll definitely be getting someone to have a look at it.
Time for a loan from the bank of Mum and Dad![]()
Its between the Pug, or this.

Alex
I'm not really worried. (It's a Peugeot + They Aren't actually all that expensive.)

He might've been referring to the one I suggested, which was indeed a Beemer (though not very realistic to say the least)Last edited by ZK-Brock on Mon Apr 07, 2008 6:06 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Ah, I see

If you are paying for it, atleast youve got some ground in arguing that its the right thing to do. If theyr paying for it, well, your _ _ _ _ _ _
Well I have nearly enough, but sadly the 'bank' won't give me a loan for the rest of it.

Seems like a great buy for $2 grand..
Apart from the k's, does anyone see anything else wrong with it?
yep ...high mileage European = $$$ in repairs and unreliable - would never touch one again after having two nightmare Europeans with a lot lower mileage than the 406 you have linked.
Whats wrong with Jap cars (and some Korean cars arent bad now too) anyway? Just read a comparison test with the new Nissan GTR beating the Porsche 911 Turbo (and its half the price) - other comparos from my massive collecion of car magazines (comparos from Wheels, Car etc):
Accord Euro is heaps better an Audi A4 2.4 (twice the price of an Accord),
350Z pulvarises the Alfa GT
Legacy 3.0R equals a BMW 330 but is nearly half the price
A Mazda 6 is better than any equivalent sized Saab or Jaguar
WRX STI thrashes the VW Golf R32 & Audi S3
Yea there is some nice Euros out there but I think you really need to buy new if you buy European as reliabilty can be a problem if they are S/H - possible exceptions are VWs & newer Skodas (basically VWs underneath) but I woudn't touch any of the more expensive German brands and anything from Italy or France.
There is some excellent Jap cars out there particularly from Mazda, Honda and Subaru.Last edited by Naki on Wed Apr 09, 2008 11:38 pm, edited 1 time in total.
