Does anyone else here play Transport Tycoon?

It's a old school windows 95 game that came free with our first ever family computer, much the same to Chris Sawyer's Rollercoaster Tycoon- you get to build a world sim-city styles, then manage the transport system among the towns by building buses and bustops, trains, tracks and stations, airlines and airports, docks and ferries, depots and trucks etc with rival AI companies playing for the virtual customers. Even though the graphics are pretty dated, it’s a really addictive game with the environment always changing, neighbourhoods developing and new vehicles becoming available as the time ticks on.

Here are some screenshots from a map I have been playing while my FS wasn't working earlier this week:

The version I am running is the updated open souce 0.5.3 version of the game called 'OpenTTD' (Transport Tycoon Deluxe) available here: http://www.openttd.org/ More info here too: www.tt-forums.net/

That was one of the first games I played on the playstation, although back then I was about 8 or 9 and had no idea what I was doing, so ran out of money and lost all the time.

Had it a couple of formats ago, have to get it again now you reminded me of it! As you say it's graphics are dated, but in the end it eventually comes down to enjoyment.

YES! I used to love that game...If I recall correctly the game was created by Chris when he was 18 or 19 years old? The music was cool too....

There is a cheat I remember too: If you make a tunnel long enough (i.e. from one edge of the world to the other on a very hilly map) your money goes 'off the clock' and you end up with unlimited $$

Yeah I have played this quite a lot too. The cheat is Ctrl+windows (button)+Alt+C. Then keeping hitting the money button to get all the dosh you want !!

Haha yep I found that tunnel trick a while a go, but these days I know what I'm doing and use a feeder system of buses to go to the airports which connect the various islands I made on the map, then link them with ferries/hovercraft for backup :)

And, with the OpenTTD patch, you can disable AI being able to have trucks and/or trains and/or buses and/or ships -makes things easier ;) (and a lot more fun being able to have a complete monopoly on a map you created yourself)

Got around to downloading it again, still haven't figured out how to convert the rail to electric though, only comes up with a 'can't convert rail type here' all the time.

I'm getting better at it and am venturing into multiplayer. Maybe a massive NZFF multiplayer match one time...
