Yer today was pretty good.

Here's 11 random pictures I took today, but they're fairly rubbish. THere's actually 23 pics from today on my Flickr, but some of them didn't end up in the set. I'll fix that later.

I regret taking the cr@p camera today, when I really should have taken the good one. There's around 200, but I can't be stuffed waiting for ~200 pics to upload, and many of them are the same as what's here, but with a slightly different angle or something like that.

Oh well, it was a great day. because of the airshow and because of the Beech I went on a tour-y thing of. :plane:

Cheers

Thanks Gavin, I like 'em all but especially the DC3, lovely clear shot which will look good on my desk-top - must be my age ?

Despite living at Papamoa, thru family committments, missed this one - the first ever...!

From where I was I didn't even get to hear the sounds. Tks again

Awesome shots Gavin, is that third one down the Sukhoi that was formerly (or possibly still is) RA-3358K?

Was a great show wasn't it, I've taken roughly exactly the same photos from the same angles, only your camera has a far better zoom than mine- that mustang was hard to catch in frame!

Amazing clear shots Gavin, question, whats the best shutter speed to use so the props don't 'stop' in shots?

zoom has its downside and panning technique is a better skill to learn.
My camera and lens weigh in at 3kg and is always handheld so it is a tiring time, weights are handy thats for sure B-)

1/250th or below for prop aircraft and 1/80 for helicopters. B-)

Had a great day at the Tauranga Airshow yesterday, met up with Naki and spent the afternoon getting sun burnt while snapping pics from the crowd line, a few meters down from Colin Hunter!

There was quite a variety of aircraft on display, as you can see in other members' posts- my favorite being the ZK-TAF Mustang and Doug Brooker's MX2 aerobatic aircraft. I was also extremely impressed by the Bayflight C152 Aerobat display, the pro pilot throwing the aircraft around the runway like a amateur student pilot, dipping the wings so low it reminded me of the infamous Portuguese TAP A310 display. The commentator also amused the crowd by calling out a registration plate of a silver Honda car that apparently double parked, then after no one claimed it, a chopper picked it up, flew it around above the crowd, then dropped it onto the grass from a few hundred feet in the air- made me laugh! The Red Checkers also had a few more tricks up their sleeves since I saw them last year at Whenuapai, which I no doubt will be displayed again at Wanaka next month.

Anyway, here are a selections from the photos I took, didn't come out anywhere near as good as I had hoped, and look terrible in comparison to the work of many photographers there with massive zoom lenses- enjoy a different perspective anyhow"¦ 16 images, 2.17mb:

And after the show, we went for a walk up to the top of Mount Maunganui- amazing views all round:

Didn't leave Tauranga till 8.30, finally arriving home at around 10.40 due to a big crash on SH1 which caused diversions all around South Auckland! Had work at 5am this morning too so I'm pretty much exhausted for now- expect a new batch of pics from Whitianga next weekend :D

Looks like good weather for an airshow!
Some nice pics there, good Checkers montage, like the Squirrel shot...
And if SWK is a kitplane, it looks amazing!
What's the history of the MASH Bell??
