The 'new' Real NZ Wellington for FSX

The official REAL NZ support forum

I may have confused a few folk with my announcement yesterday. Here's a quick précis of how this update differs from the previous FSX Wellington.

This update started out as a compatibility update to fix the changes introduced by FSX SP1, in particular the runway visibility issues caused by the changes to the 'round Earth' concept.

I deliberately held off updating until FSX was 'finished' -- which is SP2. Since I don't normally patch scenery, I did not want more than one update, but this was inevitable since I was caught out with the SP1 changes.

Anyway, because people who bought Marlborough were impressed with the increased resolution of the aerial photo textures, I decided to redo Wellington to match.

However I never intended to distribute this as a free update. Instead, I'm offering a 50% discount to those who have previously bought Wellington on CD.

You don't need to buy the new CD to take advantage of the FSX SP1/SP2 update. This will be released separately as a free download. Everything which is included in the new CD version, except for the high resolution aerial photo textures, will be included in the free update. The update will be available shortly.

What if I have only recently bought the 'old' Wellington scenery, since the 'new' scenery was announced -- do I have to pay again?
Those who purchased the scenery since I announced it -- late last year -- have been notified that they will receive an updated CD.

What do I get if I take advantage of the upgrade offer?
You will receive a replacement CD, shipped in a standard CD case, rather than the normal DVD-style packaging. You will also receive a new installation manual. The idea is that you can take the old CD out of the DVD-style case and replace it with the new one.

Ok, come on mate, why isn't it all a free update?
A number of reasons: bandwidth is one issue, the new photo aerials are huge. Business is another reason -- I need to make a living.

Does this affect me if I purchased Wellington as a download via SimMarket?
No, keep an eye out at SimMarket for an update. SimMarket have not sold a FSX version in the past, but they will next week.

Wow, those new ground textures make a huge difference! I'd go buy this update for sure if my PC could run FSX!

Looks really great Robin, awesome work. I've got a couple of questions though...

1. If we own RealNZ Wellington, and would like to get the FSX update and high-res photoreal, would we get a discount? And would that be available by download, or CD only?

2. Have you put some new buildings in there? :) I see the Beehive and Bowen House from some shots around, both weren't in the FS9 version I'm pretty sure, or are they part of FSX?

Thanks. :)

Existing owners can purchase a replacement CD for half price ($19.75)
The Beehive is the only extra city building, the other building is default FSX. There are a few default city buildings which are nice enough not to exclude:)
I may package up the Beehive for FS2004, but it is a heavy hitting model -- the curves add tremendously to the vertex count, making it one of the highest vertex counts of any model I've ever produced.

Hi Robin,

Awesome, I'm in. $20 seems very fair.

Thank you.

So does the updated CD include the FS9 version and the FSX version, or just the updated FSX?

EDIT: Oh just checked your site, "CD includes both FS2004 and FSX versions"

Is there any way to just buy the FSX version with a discount, I'm buying on behalf of a friend who just has FSX.
Edit: It doesn't have to come with a special case or anything.

Sorry, you actually pay for a license to use the scenery -- whether on FS2004 or FSX, it doesn't matter.
Now is a good time to remind folk that whenever there is two versions of a particular scenery, a single license covers them both -- you can't split them and give one away, for instance, or sell it, as that would require two licenses.

Hi there Robin, Ive just recently had a computer upgrade and have no Wellington scenery at all except for VLC and Orbx NZNI. How/where do I get the best overall package for Wellington? Ive tried typing Realnz Wellington into the search on Godzone but it just comes up product not found?? Can you still purchase "Across The Straight"?

Indeed, Rob's Welly works well with NZNI just keep your mesh settings between 76 & 19m. Fits in nicely...
