Time has moved on since the last poll was started, and so possibly have FS users.
Which describes your situation?

I would generally fly most IFR flights with FS9, and VFR with FSX, although sometimes it happens vice versa. :)

Mainly FSX with the sp2 Update these days, although FS9 is still on the computer.I don't have Christian's 20m mesh at all so that aspect dosen't worry me at all.My 2 main gripes with FSX is the textures for NZ and the lack of a hard winter in the southern alps, that is where FS9 really shines for me :arrr:

My full time move was waiting on a new FSnav. Since that won't be happening, I've now not yet decided if my permanent move will ever happen.

FSX,

Sadly I sold my FS9 as soon as I loaded FSX.
Then had to spec my machine to run better graphics.
Running
P4 3.06 Processer
2G Ram
128 Raedon graphic card

and I still cant run max graphics.

I beleive I have to install a 256 grapics card. Thats my next move.

Happy Simming

I still have FS9 installed, but haven't run it in months.

Interesting observation: A couple of days ago I put the Twinkie paint from my Blighty tour onto Avsim, in both FS9 and FSX flavours. The FSX version has more downloads, in the order of about 4:3. Not sure what conclusions you can draw from that...

Spongebob: I'd budget for a 512MB card rather than 256, if I were you.

I've got them both currently installed, but I haven't used FS9 for a long time. When I first got FSX I played it for a while, and then got frustrated with the performance and went back to FS9 for a couple of months. A combination of the initial patch for FSX, and tweaking my settings more comprehensively, has led me to use FSX pretty much exclusively now. I should probably uninstall FS9, but I'll leave it in for a little bit longer. I have no intention of getting Acceleration though, it seems like it causes more harm than good to a lot of people.

I only have FS9 and haven't considered FSX as I didn't think my system would handle it - I didn't want to fork out the ready's for something that wouldn't work.

But while with the kids at the public library yesterday I found in the kids games and books section FSX available at $3.00 for a weeks hire. So I grabbed it. I already have SP1 on a disk that came with a PC Pilot magazine.

Granted I couldn't can't activate all the features as it's been used too many times, but it's still pretty much a full version. The only thing is that it times out after a while stating you are using the trial copy. (Not the original Demo either)

To say I was surprised with the performance is an understatement. I'm certainly getting equal too and in some cases better fps than with my FS9 with all my addons. I don't consider my system flash and I had some sliders above minimum.

I have a Athlon 3500+ AM2, 3Gb's RAM, Nvidia 7100GS card. Using a Saitek X45 so maybe all is not lost. Having said that I've got quite a bit of stuff for FS9 including all of Robins RealNZ stuff so I might have to sneak a purchase past the Financial Controller at some stage.
Testers are born to fiddle. What does this button do? Oh! Never mind.....

A 512 card it will be, Thanks.

FSX Acceleration is excellent. Ups the anti and throws in some more challenges.
Missions seem to be made more difficult adding to the challenge.

More Rotary missions also.

Must have in my eyes.

So far looks like 60/40 split in favour of FS9; which is basically the same as the old poll.

OK this poll has run its course.
What can you learn, assuming you can draw any conclusions from such a small sample?
You listening out there, developers of future flightsim goodies?
77% of respondents have FS9, and 73% of those owners actually use it.
For FSX, this is 69% and 63%
The significance is, there are fewer FSX users, (we knew that) plus they are not as happy with their product as FS9'ers.
Bottom line:
If you release an FS9 product, you are likely to get 30% more takers than for the FSX option.
Be interesting to see how this poll carries through to the actual situation...

Not a bad conclusion if you are talking about freeware.
However I interpret it a little differently:)
First, given that FSX is only just 'finished' it it in the same position as FS2004 a few months after it was released -- and shows about the same takeup. However within a year of FS2004's release it has grabbed about 80% of the 'market'.
So by the end of this year, most of group B would have moved to C or D, and half of group A would be in B or C.
Given that a scenery project may take a few months, this doesn't really leave much of a workable lifespan for FS2004.
For payware, I suspect that things are drastically different. From my figures, my customer base is approx 80/20 in favour of FSX. This is based on sales enquiries. Not to mention the fact that those who have purchased FSX, and have the system to run it, are more likely to purchase addons.
Plus, despite a lot of work to stop it happening, NZFF is in danger of becoming a FS2004 holdout zone:)
