So who felt it? - I did here in Tauranga - long rolling one. 6.8 centered near Gisborne - apparently there is some major damage in Gizzy. Hope nobody is hurt

Just seen it on One News now...pretty big stuff by the look of it - quite a bit of damage. Initial reports say no one is hurt, which is a good thing.

Oh, and I didn't feel it down here

In Palmerston North we definitely felt it. Had a LONG lead-in with rumbling but no real movement, then all of a sudden the moving started and hung around. Felt like being on a small rowboat in moderate water. Didn't realise there was damage.

I felt it here in Christchurch, felt like I was standing within 50m of a train passing by. But then I was sitting in a quiet room watching my flight. My wife watching tv on the couch in the lounge didn't notice it :lol:

Would loved to have been in Gisborne! (under something solid)

I didnt feel anything. Then again, I was asleep like a rock all night. My huge CRT monitor didnt come crashing to the floor, so it cant have been bad.

Anyways it was really strong as was downstairs sitting on a bean bag (watching a Scrubs DVD) and move around to get in a better position and put my hand over where my stomach is and felt this shaking and thought it was my heart beat and then looked around for anything on a standing or hanging etc. to check for movement and saw my 1:200 A380 model shaking. (P.S. the best earthquake detectors are toilets)

That is very true, just take a look in the bowl and if the water is 'pulsing' its an earthquake

Yea, we felt it over here as well. It wasn't so obvious, but it was there. It was just like a truck going by, for about 15 seconds...

Felt it here in HN was sitting in the la-z-boy and felt my mates place shake a bit only lasted a few seconds and Im certain it wasn't any of us in the house farting either hahahaha.

I felt it here, thought it was a passing truck. Also that one last night, about half past twelve wasn't it, was it 3.4, 3 something, whatl it be tonight.
