Hope this works - a bit technical!!!!

Usually have one of my dogs (German Shepherds of course) but since I got talked in to my second multi-player attempt last weekend I have been using this.
Brings back memories of being at Wigram and also spending some time in 3TAF Sqdn - yes an oldie!!!!

Over Woodbourne - thanks Robin.

charl did you know auto hide actually uses quite a noticable amount of graphics memory?

Nope but I would've thought it the other way around - to display all those cutesy little buttons would take some resources.
Whatever, in these days of giant SLI-enabled graphics cards I don't imagine a button or 6 is going to cripple the system.
However, I paid $$ for every pixel and I want to see it all in FS!!

I was under the impression that I could not put VC on one monitor and 2d instruments on the other in fullscreen mode and that I needed to be in windowed mode
Also, window mode works better for me as I often have the webbrowser open as well and I like to be able to switch to it without FS9 minimising...

Remember windowed mode uses the video card's Windows drivers!
FS needs the fullscreen drivers to look good.
2-monitor fullscreen is a pain true, but do this:
Open the GPS or whatever, then nudge it half off the main display.
Close it, and next time you will find it for dragging/resizing on the 2ndary display.
You can do this with all the available windows.
And yes, put the browser in the kneepad.
Plus movies for those really long hauls.

I tried 2 monitor fullscreen and something really wierd is going on... I can 'nudge' something over onto the other screen (do the close/re-open thing)... but occassionally things (GPS, radio stack) wont show until I then go into the display settings, change something like filtering from/to bilinear/trilinear on the 2nd display and then let the display refresh...

plus every now and then, the 2nd display corrupts (woooooah acid trip!! dry.gif) and is just really annoying...

I am assuming this is most likely a driver issue... but its very frustrating, as I have to dick around for at least 5 to 10 minutes to get everything setup... whereas windowed mode takes around 20secs!!

I might try getting the latest nvidia drivers and seeing if that helps...

More commitment, HCP!!

If you're running LCD's I imagine you neeed to use monitor native resolution in the sim.
It is clunky, and if you're committed to dials on the 2nd monitor maybe windowed mode is easier.
I have a large primary display and don't often use the other one.
I've actually taken to flying choppers with a second window open in spot view, and at last I can land on a dime!
Mmm wonder if you can't nudge a view window over?

Well I have the desktop set to 1280x1024 on each monitor... and do the same in the sim... as a test, I might try dropping the desktop and sim down to 1024x768 and see if that helps... but I dont think I could handle a res that low on a permanent basis sad.gif

I really have to have dials on the 2nd, as I tend to fly mostly with VC and TrackIR, and its damn near impossible to click on anything in VC mode with everything moving about... dry.gif

OK turns out you can have your cake + eat it.
Starting in windowed mode you create as many additional view windows as you need.
Drag them off onto the 2nd monitor.
Then go fullscreen and do the open/nudge thng with GPS etc.

Here 3 view windows are open, you can cycle through views on any of them, useful for hovering choppers.
Dials are available too

Yay.... that works much better than trying to do the open/nudge thing... I dont have disappearing windows or anything... I just have to remember to put FS back into window mode before exiting...

  1. Start in Windowed Mode
  2. Undock views and move as required
  3. Switch to Fullscreen

The only issue I see is that you then need to resize some of the views, as they dont change their layer order, whereas in window mode the window will pop to the front when you click on it... so you can "hide" the lesser used windows in the background until you require them... nevermind... guess I'll just have to buy a TripleHead2Go or something winkyy.gif
