FS11?

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

Had a look at the flightsim website today and saw an article about Microsoft recruiting software engineers for the NEXT version of flight simulator. Does this mean that they are already working on something to replace FSX, which I though had been developed with enough advance features and capacity to keep it current for years?

see the job advert at:-

How long is FSX going to last then???

smooth landings (FSX or FS9)

FS98...
FS2000...
FS2002...
FS2004...
FSX...(2006)
FSXI...
There are long lead times for software developers and if they're only spending a year on FSXI then it's a fair bet it will be a very mild facelift.
This will hopefully let computers and operating systems catch up with the sim, this time round.

Any new release takes years to develop, so it is no suprise that MS will start developing FS11 by now. I don't think we will see a new FS until 2009 at the earliest.

I don't think that MS are looking to develop a sim that will be current for years -- they need to resell a new version every two or three years. I think that at the moment they may be aiming at a three year rather than two year cycle, though.

Well I hope they get the textures for NZ right this time, that in itself would be a huge improvement.

I suspect it's an inevitability that one of the future FS releases will massively improve the ground textures, but I guess the question is whether it's the next one, or if they can milk these current ones for a bit longer... <_<

Forgive my ignorance here... What's the big thing with textures? I've read a lot about them on here but can't say I'd ever really noticed them being wrong in NZ before that. I'll admit that FS9 before installing the NZ Landclass update looks very 'USA', but once I've installed that it seems to look ok. What am I missing?

It's pretty simple really. If Microsoft had of got the ground textures and the colour right for NZ then would we have needed the landclass.

In FSX, New Zealand by default is very brown, thats the main thing I think Richard. ;)
