FSX flatten

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Stumpy » Sun Nov 25, 2007 7:43 am

I am making my own airport in hilly terrain, usually all around the airport is flattened but not this time. Can someone point me in the direction of a tool to flatten the airport? Or any Ideas?

Thanks
James

Use FSX KML....this allows you to digitise the flatten in Google earth and then create the flatten.

The 'proper' way is to make a flatten polygon using a ESRI Shapefile.....but not many people have access to the tools able to make them

Thanks for the link. I can't get it to flatten in fsx. Does it need to be a polyline or polygon? I did what the tutorial on that link said but it is still the same

It needs to be a polygon (Polygons are for defining areas)...

Sorry I havent used it so cant give really you any pointers...did you assign a height?

Maybe you could post your KML file and we could take a look.

Should I just take screenshots of all the menus? or should I upload it to temporary site? If this one whats the best site?

You can open the KML file in Notepad, copy the text and paste it here. Or it may be simpler to copy the XML code directly from FSX KML.

I opened your KML file in Google Earth and had to tidy up the Properties -- it should only include the tag. You can in fact assign the tag in FSX KML from the drop-down list -- I prefer this method.
I then resaved the file in GE, and it compiled ok in FSX KML
