Are you just using it just to place scenery objects?
You choose Add, find your scenery object, then press Add again. It'll appear with a box around it. Now you can drag it around, rotate it etc.

Cool thanks, but now i can't see where to put it (not that i could in the first place!)... the screen is in the way. Also when I save it and exit the objects aren't there

yeah the screen is a bit of a pain- Its just a case of moving it out of the way so you can see where you are placing stuff- I find a high oblique angle is the best for placing objects as it allows better alignment.

When you have finished placing all the objects, click on the 'Save Scenery' button and exit (if it prompts you again click no as this would save a mission file over the top of your scenery file.

Once you exit you wont be able to see the scenery as there is one last step- Compiling the XML (which you just saved) into a BGL.

You will need bglcomp.exe to do this- I find it easiest to copy the bglcomp.exe and the bglcomp.xsd* into a project folder (i.e. D:\SceneryWork\) and then just drag and drop the xml onto bglcomp.exe

*Important: The blgcomp.xsd file must accompany the bglcomp.exe in the same folder

The final step is to move the resultant bgl into your. ...... Addon Scenery\Scenery folder

Yes,the Object Placement Tool is one of the worst designs I've even seen. The first thing I did when I started using it was to grab my old monitor out of the garage and connect it up -- now I can just drag the OPT off to the other monitor, and still work full-screen in FSX.

If you don't use another monitor, though, it is easy enough if you just move the window around -- place your object, then move the window down to the bottom of the screen to fine-tune the placement of your object -- you can select other placed objects to move by clicking on them.

As Timmo said, the resulting XML file needs to be compiled -- I just put a shortcut to bglcomp into my working folder, and drag the xml file onto the shortcut.

Thank you so much guys, I have successfully added aome scenery. A few questions: what is the control tower called? the ones I've seen have been for tiny airports. I need one suitable for an international airport.

And Is it best to build an AFCAD around an airport, or to build an airport around an AFCAD? With airport i mean the buildings.

This is one of the best references for FSX objects

Thank you so much Robin, that has been and will continue to be a great help. One more thing the jetways won't attach to my plane(just these ones, all others are fine) is this a limitantion within flight sim/sdk or do i have a setting wrong?
I created my airport with AFCAD2
