Acceleration -- do we want it?

A forum specifically to discuss the latest and greatest of all flight simulators

Well, I've had a quick look, and I can't see why not :)
I need to spend some more time on the races (I keep blowing up my racer's engine), but I was thrilled to get my F18 down on the carrier first time out -- believe me, not a small achievement for me.
I also managed to take the chopper for a spin over the 'new' FSX Wellington. I'll have to try the chopper missions later, but in the meantime this is one amazing addition.
Be aware that there are issues, particularly for those of us with lesser-specced machines.

I can't say I'll be interested in getting it, but I guess it's aimed more towards the 'gamer' aspect of FS these days.

So whats new about Wellington? Is the surrounding area alot more realistic? Or has nothing changed?
How did you get your hands on that?

The one "fix" that really stands out for me is this "Optimization of terrain IO for photo-scenery and "scenery load out of the zone"Â￾ fixes to help reduce blurries". From what you can see Rob,has this made any noticable diffrence to you.
Thanks

Well, not really. I wouldn't really use my system to benchmark Acceleration, as it is a little low-powered, but my initial impression is that I was getting slightly better performance before. I never really had problems with blurries, but I generally fly slow. For instance, the original photoshoot I did over Timmo's high resolution lakes stayed sharp all the time, but now it is a bit more inclined to blur with Accel.
There are some other issues, which I can't really quantify. For instance, the little hill I built under the Paraparaumu tower just doesn't look right with Accel. At the moment there is no SDK for use with Accel, so I will uninstall it so that I can continue work with the old SDK, but I may not be in too much of a hurry to reinstall -- I love the new aircraft, and the missions, but not too happy with the changes to the basic sim. I suspect that this is mainly due to my old system.

Looks to me as though they are broadening their horizons its about time FS had a decent fast jet FM thats why I'm hoping the Hornet will at least perform like one. Dx10 a Hornet and a EH101 I'll be definately getting this addon.

Here's an update -- I did in fact just figure out that Acceleration switched off my extended ground textures, which accounted for the perceived lack of sharpness. However turning it back on puts things back the way they were, and the fact that it wasn't an obvious drop in quality means that they must have improved something:)
The other problem I mentioned, with my GMAX hill model, has gone away. I've now decided to keep Accel, and took a deep breath and installed the new SDK. Now I'm committed to it:)
