If anyone is going to have the ability to survive out in the middle of nowhere it'll be him, but unfortunately when it comes down to it, if he's flown straight into a mountain or some such disaster, he's as mortal as the rest of us. sad.gif

I've been in that part of the world, and it's a very inhospitable desert. I doubt a young, super fit man would survive long without water out there, let alone a 65 year old. I guess if the plane is in good enough shape to provide shelter he might survive, but hopes must be fading sad.gif

Yes, I must say it doesn't look too good now. sad.gif I hope they at least find the crash site, it would at least give some closure as to what has happened to him. Hopefully we might still have an "against the odds" story yet...

Or even a conspiricy about how he was never found... nah, I'd prefer it if he turns up and breaks a few more world records instead!

He's a bit stupid for not filing a flightplan or having an ELT dry.gif

Consider this.. imagine he had a heart attack midflight, midcruise. Properly trimmed, or even slightly turning, that plane might have flown off for hundreds of miles before running out of gas. Maybe they'll never find him? Maybe he got too close to Area 51 and the aliens got him lol

I was under the impression he did have an ELT?

As for not filing a flight plan, it might be safer to have one, but it's by no means a legal requirement, at least in the instance of his flight.

Heading into such a desolate area you'd be insane not to file a flight plan.

I read somewhere that Nevada is 90% restricted military airspace so radar would pick up any incursions into that

Read this in the ODT this morning, you can help to find Steve!

Just go here http://www.mturk.com/mturk/searchbar?selec...rchWords=fosset , click 'Work on Hits' and you are presented with a load of updated small satalite images for the area that he went missing in. You have to say whether or not the image contains anything of interest, and if it does, it will be submitted for further examination.

I think you have to register first, but it only takes a few minutes.
