Looks pretty eerie, bathed in light red/orange... reminds me of Mars actually. I wonder if the colour will get more intense?

Just remembered a verse from the bible, where it says something about on the day that the moon turns to blood, the world will come to an end blink.gif I hope there is a tomorrow!

Yea, it was pretty cool. We must have been lucky - it was mostly clear out at our place, and we are away from the bright lights of Rotorua. winkyy.gif

I did manage to take a few photos as well, sorry, 10 photos = 700kb.

This one taken at about 8:30, just trying out different settings

With a wide-angle fitting, I can point the camera through our telescope - makes it much more interesting

One I stuffed up a little bit - but still looks sorta cool...

This one had a longer exposure time, so you can see the red but means its blurry, and the other section is really bright

It was really tricky trying to get a shot of the red moon through the telescope, as there was really very little light coming through. So, I went out the other side of the house and took this one on a long exposure time leaning on a rock, this one has only been cropped - no resizing at all. winkyy.gif

was standing at the pad waiting for the Bell to come back and it wasn't until the mother and father of the baby we were picking up from Tauranga arrived that we actually remembered it was happening and like a lot of yas it was covered by clouds but the father had some wicked shots of it he was showing us on his DSLR (the camera made me drool cant wait to upgrade to a DSLR).

In Melbourne the clouds were there and I was really disappointed that I would not see the moon. Then I went out and checked and suddenly the cloud moved aside for about 15 minutes and I was lucky enough to capture some photos.

This one is the one I was most happy with.

Mike you are a kind person, I think one could've waited for the pics in the NZ Herald...
It's quite hard to photograph the moon at the best of times, and a dark moon is hardly visible through any (non-astronomical) viewfinder.
So I have to 'fess up:
What I did was to use the "Nightshot" setting on my video camera.
I just panned slowly across the sky, and later captured the frame.
You can see it's pretty grainy.
But the picture looked like something you see through Night Vision Goggles, with a green cast.
SO I fixed the hue by looking out the window, and trying to match the colour by eye.

It really was taken 1/2 hour before max, though, and you did see it first, here.

Thanks for the kind comments. It was taken on my Nikon D70 DSLR with a Nikon 70-300 telephoto lens and mounted on a tripod with a 1.6 second exposure. I was really happy with it.

Some good pics guys.

Did anyone see the moon last night?

It was really low in the sky and was gleaming in an odd yellow/orange colour- proberly because of the dirty atmosphere or whatever- but it was very clear and looked really impressive!
