Postby jastheace » Wed Aug 29, 2007 11:29 am

ok, here goes the cat among the pigeons request, what would be the best, cost is a factor, but not a big factor, Boeing 737 out there, i am looking at something with a FMC etc, i am looking for bang for buck, free repaints or pay repaints, how many models, i.e. is it just the -300 model, or does it have more like the -300 -400 -500 models, are included. hope you guys have got the gist of it

thanks

Jason

In my opinion this is a straight shoot out between PMDG NG 737 and PIC 737 from Wilco. Both are good titles and I doubt if either would disappoint. My personal pref. would be Wilco's varient which comes in the 300/400/500 models and has plently of free repaints available. Both were stable in FS2004 for me, from memory the PIC one ran faster for me.

I would have say the PMDG NG 737, it has the 600, 700, 800 and 900 varients, never tried the Wilco 737, and have no problems running the PMDG's on my system, lot's of free repaints as well.

Think very few folk are going to own all the top payware a/c, the learning involved sounds like Work.
You may be better off trawling for reviews on the flightsim sites.
I went for an offbeat one which I'm exploring here. (You get to drive the pushback tug, among other strange things)
I wouldn't know if it's better or worse than PMDG which has some of the best reviews I've seen.

I guess I should have added that I prefer the Wilco because its the 'classic' 300 model

FiftyNorth have a superb 737-300/400/500 model available, the best I have seen. If you can afford to get both, merge the 50N model with the Wilco/FT 737. winkyy.gif

For exterior model/panel/vc quality and ease of use, I find the Overland addons awesome. There are three main aircraft packs: Boeing (what you're looking for), Airbus, or Both. I have the pack with both, and it includes the 737 -700 -800 and -900. Most of the repaints in the pack are Asian airlines, but there are heaps on Avsim/Flightsim.com.
In fact I think that's the -700 model in my signature, with a Southwest paint off Avsim. I can post screen shots if you want.

they don't look to bad, whats the cockpits like, and do they have functioning fmcs? i have become a bit of an fmc junkie, if they plane has em, they should work. not a bad price either, for all those models, if you could post some screenshots that would be cool

Ok, well I cant take any new ones because FS isn't running that well atm, but I'll post up some oldies. Model, Panel and VC are all awesome, but they have default sounds. Easy to find off avsim though. And no FMC unfortunately, what does an FMC actually do? Here are the pics:
A330

A340-600

737-700

747-400 VC

A300 Panel

737-800 VC

737-800 Model

The Overland pack, along with Flytampa's TNCM, are my two favourite addons.

thanks for that, i think that the boeings look better than the airbuses. the fmc basically is a tool like the gps, but you program in all your waypoints etc for your route, it will then fly it for you, i am sure someone can accurately describe it. you can also select what sid and star you want to fly with it in real time,

FMC = Flight Management Computer. If you program it correctly you can just chuck on the A/P after takeoff and take it off on finals. It will fly the plane for you. winkyy.gif
