Ok I am getting heaps and heaps of pop-ups!
I would like a free firewall that blocks them but does not block games. It happens EVEN when windows firewall is on.
If there is another solution then please share otherwise...what is the best FREE firewall for the job. I won't buy one.
Thanks
James

They are not using something a firewall can stop, the info is already on your PC in the form of a web page, the pop ups feed off that.

Pop Ups can usually be stopped by:

Using the Google Search Bar with built in pop up stopper in IE

or

Using Firefox (stops them by default) and install the adblock extension

Also, look in Add / Remove programs for any so called pop up stopper programs (in my experience they actually generate pop ups), ad sense type programs (designed to 'tailor' your web browsing by sending you pop ups that may interest you), or anything else that sounds like it's sole purpose is to generate adverts (Google the names of any you are unsure of)

I use Avast antivirus and run Zonelabs Zonealarm - and firefox as a browser - touch wood I have had no problems and don't seem to get bothered by these things. All 3 are freeware. Avast was recommended to me by the IT techs at work as it's what they use on their own personal computers and if it's good enough for them then it's good enough for me.

hope it helps
cheers
