Strange aircraft takeing-off from NZWN

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Saw it by the hospital at around 5:30pm.
It looked like a VC-10 or something with engines at the back with a t-tail and low wings.
Anybody know what it is?

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

There was a Aussie C130 here today. As for a "VC10 lookalike" dont know what you are talking about there.

Possibly an IL-62? There are a few used as government aircraft around the world although I'm not sure if you could fly into WN in an IL-62 with a crew not familiar with the airport. Only other aircraft I can think of with 4 tail mounted engines is the Lockheed Jetstar but that's quite a bit smaller and I don't think there are many still flying.

Possibly a CRJ or large business jet? Not the four engines, but similar profile/scale. smile.gif

I know that the Challenger 850 VH-LEF was in the country 6 & 7 August but I mean a VC10 and an Il62 are a little bit
hard to miss identifying if you know what I mean ?
How loud and smokey was it?

I couldn't see the airport so I didn't get a scale on how big it was but quite possibly a Challenger.

That sounds more likely; I suspect if an IL-62 was planning on visiting we would have been well aware of it! tongue.gif
