Eathier my dial up 56k conection has got slower, iv got goodness knows what spyware and viruses or this new board is really hard on load times. rolleyes.gif

Was a great thing about the old board, nice and fast, you may notice im not quite as active here, yeah iv been busy lately but I do get the fealing its because it takes so long to laod everything.. I have the chace on and everything with IE7, its just really slow, even something take along time to load that I would expect be chacehed.

Bit of a shame really, I used to be able to read all the latest posts, now its just not possible really unless I have alot of time on my hands...

I doubt any of you guys have noticed, I think im the only one left on dial up here now, oh theres timmo, but yeah, now you know, if you can do something about it (move back the old forum heheheheh) Id really appreciate that....

Hey Jimmy,

I'm still on 56k. This site seems to be OK, but I have noticed some other sites are a bit slower than normal.

I found if I disconnected and then reconnected to the Net this sometimes helped. Depends on the time of day and other traffic/loading.
Check your cache? This may speed up thinks a little.

NZFF loads fine both at home (broadband) and school (shared broadband). By fine, I mean as fast as any other website.

I am not sure quite what the problem would be, it could be many things.
The server is now in Auckland, as opposed to somewhere in the US (probably) as the old one was.

It could possibly be that the server now is slower than the old one, but we cannot compare as we did not have stats on the older one. It could be that it takes longer for the website to take a reference from the MySQL database, as this board is more complex. It could be your internet connection, or somewhere along the line.

An idea might be to 'ping' the url to find the time it takes for this server to respond to you. Open up 'Run' from the Start menu, and type "command", then type "ping www.nzff.org", you should get an average time, in milliseconds. For example, I get an average response time of 63ms. smile.gif

Disabling some features may help, although I'm not sure to what extent.

I think that the internet in NZ is broken at the moment, there's a lot of talk about this on the various local forums. It took me five minutes and three refreshes to get this thread to display. I'm definitely noticing it at the moment because I've been throttled for a week now, and I have another three days before I'm unthrottled. Damn all those E3 game demos on Xbox live, which used up all my bandwidth...
NZFF seems particularly slow -- with very long pauses and time-outs. The AVSIM forum is very speedy by comparison, but that's a very streamlined forum -- basically text-only except for tiny buttons.

I get about 2.0Mbps (I got 2.9 earlier today) to AKL, and 128k upload, to LA I get about 1.5 down and 128k up, to Sydney I get 1.7 down and 128k up. On Slingshot, with a 6Gb cap. blink.gif
