Thanks for the news & link - no surprise there but wasn't expecting it so soon - I reckon the international fleet by late this decade will be 777-300ER, 787-9 & A320. No 767s, no 777-200ERs (quick turnover of these - they will be replaced by 787s) and no 747s.

Didn't someone say look out for some new aircraft in Eagle Air colour.
Does this mean that Eagle air is also getting new aircraft?

Plus I say that the A320 won't stay forever (Air NZ only owns two the other 10 are leased) the 767's will be gone soon. A few 747's will stay Maybe up to 5 and there will be around 5 777-200's and 5 777-300's and plus 10 or so 787's.
I say that Air NZ will start using 787's and 777-200's from Wellington as they can operate here and they'll be able to opened up more routes. (NZWN is the busiest N.Z. domestic airport - two more domestic Air NZ routes than NZCH and one more that Auckland for starters plus the GA area and the regional airlines e.g. Sounds air (their aircraft take-off and land every 30 mins)

Sure, they can get in there- But would it be a profitable route? There would have to be minimal bagage and Cargo which means, No it would not be profitable-

BTW- About Eagle- I think the person that said that meant that the Air NZ Paint is going onto some Jetstreams

The Herald article quite clearly says the 747s wil be phased out. We'll see about the A320s but you might be right. Eagle - maybe they will get Q200s that are on option - maybe also the ATRs wil be replced by Q400s and the current 737s by A319s so the whole fleet gets some rationalisation & commonality. There way too many types at the moment which causes maintenance, training etc headaches.

I would Say the A320's will be phased Out. How Long will ZEAL320 Be operating for anyway. Is "Freedom" on the way Out?

Eagle Air will definently get new planes soon- Somthing bigger as well- Somthing exactly like a Q200- The Flights are pretty packed on the ones Ive been on.

Mt Cook- Well, Im really not sure- Ive read that Q400's are quieter, but the ATR Is more comfortable than the Dash.

Air New Zealand Will Not get A319's, Im pretty sure- But 737NG Is a more likely outcome.

The Q400s are way faster - but I have heard the ATRs are more economical. Air NZ hold 20 or so options for A320/319/321 so they may get those at favourable prices (if the options still exist).

Air NZ has options for the Q400 as well, I really dont see the Q200 on the horizon though!

haha, 747's for the sake of 747's is not a good reason
the 748 has more capacity, sure, but is therefore more difficult to get a good load factor, and less fuel efficient. having said that, Air NZ are replacing 8 744's with 4 773ER's? my maths isn't great, but that's a big hole in capacity, even with the 787. maybe a window there.

If you look at the A.net forum, NZ1 who is a pretty reputable source of info when it comes to things air nz has said that the other 3 options will be used soon, making the total to 7. Go over to anet to check it out!

I definently wouldnt rule out the possablitilty of ANZ getting 747-800'S- Mabye they will start WSSS Services again or somthing like that

Yes Yes That will happen, for sure, 100% (I will just keep saying that to my self)

Anyway if we don't get 747's no one will fly them in here anymore

Qantas = A380
Singapore = A380
Thai = A340
Cathay = A340 /380
malaysian = A380 (but still could get some 747-8's)

But I love the only real QUEEN OF THE SKIES

ah well at least we can keep flying what we like in our virtual skies!! i am not surprised at the announcement, i was wondering how long before the 747's got the heave, as for local, it wil be intresting, espically if some descent local competition starts up

Well, I'm sure we don't know all of the information yet, of course there will still be developments that we cannot see. People who have made these choices have obviously had a good long hard think about it, and know a lot more stuff than we do.

I'll be interested to see how they juggle things with fleet replacements.

sorry to bust your bubble about NZWN but it doesn't even come close in the aircraft movements stakes to NZAA - it's about 25% behind.

NZAR is the highest movements due to the large number of circuits done there. Then NZAA. The number of routes or destinations bares no relationship to the number of movements or how busy it is. 10 aircraft going along 4 routes is still busier than 6 aircraft along 5 routes.
