Ardmore & Hamilton

Hi Robin

Just being a bit nosy on future developments - is Ardmore going to be released with your Auckland International Airport package or it stand alone (I think I read somewhere where that its going to be a seperate freeware package)?

The same question with Hamilton (presumably that is next after Auckland) - is that a standalone package?

.. and blabbing on a bit more I have to say I like the idea of having a few nice GA airfields to fly around in like you have done with Marlborough and Bay of Plenty but I guess the bigger sales are in the bigger airports.

On my wish list are Taupo/Hastings/Napier, Palmerston North/Fielding/Masterton/Wanganui, Hamilton/Matamata & New Plymouth/Stratford/Hawera packages or similar mixes and Dairy Flat somewhere along the line but I guess you don't have 80 hrs in a week to put all these together. :)

Cheers

Paul

Hi Rob.
I too, would be interested in the future of the Hamilton scenery you started work on a while back.
Will it be a contender for a RealNZ scenery sometime after Auckland Intl. ??
As with Naki, Palmerston North would have to be on my RealNZ wish list as well.

Hi Naki,...
Rob Diebold did a fairly nice Taupo Airport scenery.
filename............... Taupo1.zip
I cant remember whether it was posted on Avsim.com, or Flightsim.com. One or the other.
Myself and Mike are developing a new Napier Airport scenery with a photoreal terminal at present. I am also developing a Napier Seaport scenery to compliment it.

Hiya benwynn,............
Re the Auckland Airport scenery, read my last post at the thread in the link below for alternatives to Auckland 2005.

I've met nobody from Tauranga from NZFF - only Auckland & Rotorua.

I am looking forward to your Napier scenery you are doing with Mike  Saw the pics elsewhere - looks good.

ZK-MAT is also here in Tauranga
Im also doing a scenery of the Sea Port of Napier. Be a nice compliment to the airport i think, seeing as how they are so close together.

most will know where i stand with this ,id say auckland airport with ardmore as a extra .of course to make money .
then my biggest wish Hamilton airport ,though there is a problem with photoreal around there as is doesnt go all the way to the ap ,so id guess this one will be along time coming
then the list goes whatever whatever anything is good  >nzflag<

I've purposefully not made any plans beyond NZAA. However when I am in Auckland I expect to be able to do another photoshoot above Ardmore, which is the only thing holding it up at the moment. The existing aerial textures in 'Auckland City' are variable, and tend to vary towards ugly around Ardmore. I have no firm plans for the Ardmore release, but it may well be freeware.
I'm not too concerned about the lack of aerial imagery around Hamilton -- sooner or later I need to get away from the aerial textures and just concentrate on the airports. Who knows, Hamilton might be the first of these. I may look at moving away from the CD releases, and release individuals airports as they are completed.
Just one comment on the financial considerations mentioned in some of the posts here -- this is a real issue, and will always determine the order of releases. However when -- or if -- I get to the stage where I have a steady income from this it won't be so important.
Some releases have been successful (i.e. they brought in at least a minimum workable income for the time spent on them) but some haven't been so good. Wanaka was a total disaster, whereas Marlborough is shaping up to be a good seller.

Hi Rob.
Thanks for the explanation.
I guess the old saying "time will tell" applies here.
We will all just have to be patient and wait and see what develops over time.
With regards to the "financial considerations", as far as im concerned your work is worth it at any price. I belive i said "Second to none", when you released Wellington, and that still stands. I also believe i said Wellington was one of the best Payware airport releases anywhere...... "bar none",................. i was wrong,.....Marlborough is the best ,....bare none !!
Well done mate, absolutely superb in every way !!!
I can live without photoreal ground textures around an airport. Im not there for the ground, im there for the airport !! The ground textures around NZHN arent too bad, and Christians Landclass and Topo are very indicitive of what it actually looks like around the area.
Ardmore would be the same for me, i could live without photoreal textures around it, as long as the airport itself were a fairly accurate rendition of the real thing.
Thanks for all your hard work over the years. Shame Wanaka was a bust for you, its a very beautiful area of NZ !!

It is a shame Wanaka wasn't a success, indeed it is in a beautiful part of the country and close to ZQN and Mt Cook makes it a great base to start VFR flights. CHC/WKA return is a great flight to do in the B1900, especially in winter!
I'm sure alot would sell at the airshow, would it be worthwhile having a stand at next years show maybe selling Real NZ products? Just a thought...

I'm very surprised that the Wanaka Scenery was not a big seller.

I know that some people (including myself) buy scenery to remind them of places that they have visited or have some other connection with.

Tourists who have visited Queenstown (for example) and who are simmers would be very happy to re-live their visit in the simulator and pay to own that experience.

Warbirds Over Wanaka has a huge attendance from both local and overseas enthusiasts, so should have a large customer base.

Maybe advertising (or stall) at the next airshow would be fruitful?

Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are also good candidates because visitors will have experienced at least one of these on their visit.

Using this logic, Robins decision to model NZAA next is a good one. Now I need to convince him that his home town NZCH may be a profitable choice!

- sorry for sounding like a broken record Robin

I thought there was already a good Freeware version of Christchurch over at www.nzscenery.com? Why reinvent the wheel or redo whats already good enough? How about concentrating on some of the airports that have not been done or need a major upgrade from the FS2000 days.

Surely if Australia and its big landmass could be done in VOZ then our little island should be able to be done just as well.

Whether or not there is a freeware alternative is not one of the major considerations when I decide on the next project. If the existing NZCH was rebuilt for FSX then it may be less of an option.
If I thought that a VOZ-like project was likely in NZ then I wouldn't have started the business. I did push for it for a number of years, but with no real long-term result.
I would certainly like to give a stall at Wanaka a go next year, I would have been there last year but the timing was wrong.

Well, there are others in NZ,........... NZWR, NZHN, NZAP, NZNR, NZGS, NZNP, NZPM, NZNS, NZDN, NZNV......................... Just to name a few that are worthy places to fly in and out of, and lots more.................
Flying to the same old airports can get a little boring after a while, and New Zealand is a really beautiful place to explore......

Agree with Lawrie on that. Why get stuck in a rut for the major Airports that seem to be the only ones upgraded for each FS version. Microsoft have come along in leaps improving those yet the small provinces are lucky to have buildings.

Yes, the NZScenery freeware offering is very good and is a credit to the developers.

Robin's Godzone version with Ian's Airport is also very good. I chop and change between the two from time to time.

My comment related purely to the potential marketability of the RealNZ scenery to the overseas market place.

I have travelled to Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Toronto, Ottawa, San Fransisco etc. and the first thing I do when I return home is hunt down and install FS models of these areas and have some fun.

Anyway, with the current changes being made to the 'real' NZCH, it would be best to wait until this is complete before modelling it in FS.

The new Terminal Buildings and Control Tower are scheduled for completion in 2009.
