How do I take screenshots?

I am incredibly inexperienced in flight simulation and don't know anything about taking screenshots. This is probably a huge waste of everyones time, but how do you do it?

if you're using FSX, press the V key
if you're using something else, you'll need a 3rd party program. FRAPS does the trick, unless someone else has a better program they use?

If you are using FS9, i started off by pausing the game, getting an angle i liked, and pressing the print screen key. I then pasted it into paint, and saved as a JPEG. I don't resize, as Photobucket will do that for you. This is time consuming though, and there are a numbr of programs out there to help. I think there is one called Fsscreen, it will save shots to a folder of your choice as a .BMP every time you press the print screen button.
I would recommend FRAPS though. It's payware, but it will save shots as a JPEG to any folder of your choice, you can also choose what button you want to use to take shots. It can do the same with videos too. Then it is just a matter of uploading.

I haven't used fraps, but I used the printscreen =>Paint method, and it's so crappily long you can't be bothered. I use ATi Tray tools, it takes awesome quality Jpegs. However you must have an ATi graphics card for it to work. Get it here, if you have an ATi graphics card.

I use Screenhunter http://wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter.htm It's free, saves as jpg, in the folder of your choice, automatically sequences (with your own defined prefix), all you need to do is hit the PrtSc key...

BTW, if you pause FS, don't forget to wait until the flashing "simulation paused" message is OFF! (so many people don't ! )

Hi Duckman,
You probably have found something by now, but if not, I use a nifty little tool called FSScreen and if I can use it, anyone can.
Allthough classed as a FS2002 tool I use it for all sorts in cluding FS9

The problem with FSScreen is that every screenshot is saved as a .bmp file, which are quite big. If you have an ATi graphics card, get ATi Tray Tools (google it) and use it's sceenshot function. FIles are saved as high quality jpegs (not crappy looking ones like some programs spit out)

I use FSScreen as well, in the options you can choose what format it saves it as, either a .bmp, .gif, .jpeg, or .png . Its a great little program, nice and light as well.

You can download FSScreen from http://www.marian-aldenhoevel.de/YAFSScreen/. There are also a few screenies of the program and some instructions etc.
