ANZ 747 seatback entertainment

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Postby ZK-Brock » Wed Jun 27, 2007 5:57 pm

Hi NZFF
I'm goin on an ANZ 747 to England on the weekend (there and back, coming back in about 2 weeks).I've seen pics on Airliners.net of seatback entertainment (here)
What do these screens show, is it just one movie or can you choose and chop n change? Is it just movies or is there music, games etc as well?

Oh the joys of longhaul :P good luck!
With Air NZ on the 744 you can watch all sorts of things, and pick and choose when you want to watch them.

I've flown on quite a few of them. You can choose which movie/tv show/music album you want to watch from a huge list. The movies are always ones that are still in theatres, and the tv shows are good. Music albums cover a wide range of genres and there are all the latest ones, aswell as classics. Enjoy :)

I was going to ask a similar question, I'm going to Europe On Malaysian in September. It's a 777-200 both ways, what's the IFE like? My flights are:

1.Economy Auckland-Kuala Lumpur-4 hour stopover- KL- Rome
2.Economy (but may get into Business as parents are booked in business- we meet them in rome) Zurich-KL-Same Stopover-Akl.

Hey Brock, got any spare room in your carry on baggage? Screw a suitcase, I need the IFE

Hey! 300th post! :P

So this means there will be the 'movies on demand' sorta thing? ie i can pause it while i drain the main vein etc? I thought it was like the Air pacific 747 system, where they play 10 movies or so, and if you miss it, you can't rewind.

Air NZ system isn't especially quick to use, takes a while to browse. Apart from that there's a good selection.

How long ago did you go on it? Certainly when I went less than a year ago it was on demand

Err sorry mate, my bad, just remembered I was in Business Class, no idea about economy :( Sorry 'bout that, although being an Asian airline I would expect it to be on demand. In reality though, no idea. Sorry :(

Sorry it's not on demand for economy. but Victor_Alpha_Charlie don't fret Malaysia airlines is awesome to fly on and great service. Plus the flight has absolutely fantastic scenery over the outback.

Also great duty free stuff via Malaysia airlines. Heaps of models.

Almost all their fleet available in 1:200 from Hogan and 1:500 by Herpa (although get it on your way to Malaysia as their not often available on the return flight) also I'm not so sure they've got all the aircraft models anymore. Anyway Malaysia airlines is really good but don't expect too much because if your expectations are low you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I find that silly for no in flight entertainment on a 777??? :(
Must be really boring if it's cloudy ;)
I'd thought they'd want to keep up with the other airlines etc.

You realise there is an in flight entertainment system it just not on demand.

Plus Malaysia Airlines is one of the best airlines in the world.

Try to get upgraded to Business Class, when I went i got a free model of a Malaysia 777-200. To be honest though, 777's are my least favorite aircraft, they are old and should have easily been phased out by better aircraft by now, maybe the 787 might do the job!
