Split Sound...

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby HardCorePawn » Sun Jun 10, 2007 2:53 pm

I know someone has posted about using onboard sound + sound card, or onboard/card + USB headset to enable having aircraft noises through speakers and radio comms through headset...

but I cannot for the life of me find the thread on the forums... the search (using google) is not that great :(

can someone please put me out of my misery??

It was in the online simpilot magazine if you have it.

Ahhhhh i knew I had read about it somewhere!

Thanks for that... I thought I was going nuts, I have been trawling through the various sections of this forum for the last half hour or so trying to find it!

now I just need to 'borrow' the soundblaster card from the halfdead machine sitting under my desk and I'll have dual sound goodness!

FSX only - and you don't need a sound card.
I split my onboard sound into USB headphones for voice.

yeah, card or usb headset.... but for me its more like 'free' spare card vs. $$$ for usb headset... so thats a fairly easy choice to make...

the only issue was that for some reason the card was not being initialised by the BIOS properly (ie. not in the big list of devices during POST)... which meant I couldnt install the SB Liveware drivers (no SB card detected, installer will close type errors)... I guess that's what happens when you put in a card that is like 5 years old into a modern machine :)

In the end, I had to change the IRQ settings in the BIOS settings for PCI1, PCI2 and PCI3 from 'Auto' to a specific number for the card to initialise.

I ran out of time to experiment (I must remember to try doing this sort of thing before 11pm), so I will need to fiddle some more ie. I'm pretty sure I only need to set PCI1 to a specific IRQ...

But I managed to jump into FSX and join a multiplayer game and could hear a bunch of american's doing radio checks in my headphones...

And it will also work with FS9 as well... as FS9 will go through the speakers... and I can configure TeamSpeak to be via the headset
