Edit; Maybe try swapping the monitors over? LCD's often have lower refresh rates than CRT's. ;)

I am running to CRT's at he moment.

Ah ok, sorry, thought it was one LCD and one CRT.

Is there any way of saving my desktop settings (i.e keep the icons in the same place) because when i restart the computer with the secondary monitor as primary, it loads up with icons in alphabetical order on the now primary monitor(hope that makes sense)

If you go into display settings where it shows two monitors 1and 2, just click and hold and drag one of them to the other side of the other. This will change primary to secondary.

There is also other settings in Nvidia that you can adjust to dual and both monitors will have duplicate desktop icons and another setting for either icons on just 1 or 2 monitor.
