Photoreal Forest Textures

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby ardypilot » Mon May 14, 2007 10:02 pm

Today I was flying from Rotorua to Gisbourne, and I happened to be crossing over an area of the old Godzone photoreal I hadn't seen in a good few years. I remembered seeing a ground texture that had puzzled me when I originally saw it

Can anyone tell me what it is:

The position is between Mt Tarawera and Mt Edgecumbe, which according to my big VNC map is the Kaingaroa Forest. However, the ground appears all brown with white dots on it..

Think that is exactly what a logged forest looks like - those are the logging tracks.

yep logging tracks- The trees are cut and moved to the skid site (the 'spots') where they are chopped up to be placed on the trucks on the tracks (the lines)

'ere steady on...it's not exactly slash 'n burn y'know.
There's a geat deal of Resource Consent bumph before you get to chop down the tree.
And there's no concrete in sight, all very green and sustainable.
Try Brazil for an eye-opener...Google Earth can't keep up.
