AB Simulations P3 Orion

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby monsta1978 » Sun May 13, 2007 6:43 pm

Has anyone had problems with the flight controls for the AB Simulations P3 Orion available from www.airforce.mil.nz ?

I try to take-off with stick full back and it will not get off the gorund or absolutely stuggle to take-off if I use the first flap setting. Even if i start in the air it will struggle to maintain straight and level flight with the stick full back.

Trim is set to take off.

This occurs both in FS9 and FSX

Something is definitely not right... help! Any ideas?

Negative.

Airspeed is good. Trim is good. Autopilot not engaged.

All that happens is the nose pitches up a little (nose wheel slightly off the ground).

new to all this. What is the CG? (and how do I check it?)

CG, as in centre of gravity. Try adjusting your fuel/payload, or even setting it to empty of default.

No luck. I reduced the fuel to 5% in all tanks and it struggled to take-off again, although it did take-off this time once airspeed was over 200 kts!

Once I eased back off on the stick, it sunk like a stone again, even though at this stage I was in excess of 230 kts.

CG was inline with the leading-edge of the wing - before and after fuel adjustment (is this normal?)

Not too sure, I think it varies with each aircraft?

Perhaps it is your joystick which is at fault- needs recalibrating maybe?

Also, try making a compleatly new flight, and see if something you had accidently set in your current flight (maybe you accidently pressed a key combo without realising it) was at fault...

Don't think it's the joystick as all other aircraft work fine. Incidentially I have the AB Simulations C-130 and no problems with that aircraft either.

Tried making a completely new flight and still the same effect.

Thanks Ian.

Just out of interest the following is in the aircraft.cfg file.
I tried adjusting the CG_aft_limit to =0.000 but that didn't affect anything (to be honest I don't know what the settings do lol).

[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]
reference_datum_position = 0.0000, 0.0000, 0.0000 // (feet) distance from FlightSim Reference position: (1/4 chord, centerline, waterline)
empty_weight_CG_position=0.000, 0.000, 0.000
max_number_of_stations=50
station_load.0=0.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000
empty_weight=80016.00
empty_weight_roll_MOI=1955508.000
empty_weight_pitch_MOI=2309100.000
empty_weight_yaw_MOI=2243626.000
empty_weight_coupled_MOI=1300.000
max_gross_weight=116999.999
CG_forward_limit=0.000
CG_aft_limit=1.000

V2 is at approx 128-132kts,...make sure you have some nose up trim. At full loading the orion is not a light aircraft. I dont have any problem with getting airborne but ill take a look at it and let you know.

gidday Ian,how are things with you ,...you still down at wigram ?.....
Thanks for the praise,....the models are pretty basic,but then i made them that way specifically so that people with lower end pc's wouldnt have too many probs!. I have a NH-90 fully built,animated and textured but are awaiting confirmation from the rnzaf to whether they want it or not,....ill be surprised if they dont seeing the aircraft arent that far away from delivery...,if not i will upload them somewhere for all to enjoy.

Hi Adrian... thanks for taking a look.

I've tried as you've suggested but still a no go. I've even tried with full nose up trim and it just won't take-off. To quote Scotty (I'm my best scottish accent)... "I'm givin' it all she's got captain..." :P
