FS X and Real NZ Wellington

I seem to be the only one with this problem so it must be me. :(

I have just bought FS X and seeing Rob has patched Welly I thought I'd give it a go. I have all the Real NZ sceneries so far, (great job Rob) installed with FS2004 ok, no problems there.

I followed the instructions and copied the wellington folder into my FS X folder. I then ran the executable and started up FS X. I added it to my scenery database and flew to Wellington. After a loooong load time it came up but it appears there are no textures ie. all structures are black. But that's not all; all the photo area was covered in water, hills and everything. I tried removing the Welly texture folder and had exactly the same result! I restored it back and looked for duplicate AF_NZWN files and found another one. After removing the second one (probably from GNZLAP5, another great addition) Wellington finally came up ok. Thinking I had solved it I turned off and came back later. Guess what, the old fault had returned! I have the 20m mesh and topo installed and no other additions.

I'm sure someone may have a clue here. There are so many talented people on this site. A huge resource for which I'm forever grateful. Keep up the good work guys, we all appreciate your time and effort.

Cheers
Paul

What are your system specs, Paul? In particular graphics card and graphics memory.

Hi Rob, thanks for getting back.

I'm running a 1.2Ghz Athlon with 512Mb system memory. The graphics card is a Gigabyte NVidia FX 7600 GS AGP version with 256Mb video ram all running on XP SP2. All your sceneries run perfectly well in FS9.

I tried actually starting at Paraparaumu to see if there was any difference. The same result with even Kapiti Island covered in water although you can see the hills underneath. :( The scenery comes right over the boundary into the default stuff. I did notice though that the hills behind Paraparaumu had wide striping on them, i.e. there were stripes of default texture coming through the water hills. This must be an elevation spec thats gone wrong somewhere. I've tried replacing the AFCAD several times.

I tried importing Real Rotorua last night and it works fine. I might remove Wellington and reinstall it from scratch.

What doesn't make sense is that the system actually displayed normally once and I made absolutely no change before restarting again later.

Cheers

Have you installed the Photo-based scenery update from FSInsider?
This doesn't seem to be the type of problem which this patch addresses, but it can't hurt.
Otherwise we may have to wait till SP1 if you can't get this fixed with a reinstall. Your system RAM may be the limiting factor here.

Hi Rob. I downloaded and installed the patch as suggested. Still no change. I then removed Wellington from the library and rentered it. Hey Presto! It worked again and still worked after a restart. So thanks for listening and keep up your great work and support. Can't wait for Marlborough (hint hint)

Cheers
