A Little Housekeping

Read and write about updates, changes, or any issues regarding the NZFF website and community

Recently I stated my position regarding the NZFF Annual Awards, which caused some discontent.
I dislike the way it was run, in secret, and offlist, and then presented as an NZFF thing.
I have no issue with the outcome - well done guys; it's great to see so many talented people in one spot.
But I happen to disagree strongly with the process it followed, and hope the mistake will not be repeated.

There was an NZFF admin failure here, in that the awards should have been brought into the forum in an accountable way from the outset.
Instead, it was allowed to continue, which resulted in my pissing on the parade. My apologies for this guys, it was extremely poor timing.

I stand by my position, but to pursue it would seem mean and petty, and serves no real purpose.
What to do? If you are burdened with an over-developed sense of tidiness, as I am, the issue remains something of a thorn in the side.
Simple solution, and you know what comes next: effective immediately, I will take a break from the NZFF admin, and so remove that thorn.
The forum is in good hands, with a great moderating team, and the remaining three admins, Alex, Toprob, and Trolly.
They'll need a little help, so now's the time for you to step up and show your commitment to the NZ flightsim scene:
The NZFF needs an admin post filled.
It's a fair bit of work, and there are ups and downs, but overall you'll find it quite an interesting experience.
This decision is made in the long-term interest of this forum; I wish it all the best for the future.

It will be a shame to see you go Charl :( I do hope that you will still be on the forums as much as ever.

I understand completely what Charl is talking about. And, unlike Charl, I do find SOME of the outcomes to be less than objective...

...take some time to re-read some of what was said in the NZFF Awards thread, the justification for choosing the winners of some the awards was tenuous to say the least, as were some of the nominations...

...that said there were some very deserving winners.

All talent should be celebrated and I hope that is what the spirit of the awards was about, and will continue to be about, if they run again. And, in case you're wondering, this isn't about me personally winning or not winning - I've got to say I was pretty chuffed to be nominated... in more than one category. That is an award in itself.

After reading the results of the awards I had a serious think about whether to bother continuing with this forum. At the end of the day I get a great deal of enjoyment in the 'work' I do in FS and I enjoy sharing it with others, so I will continue churning out the repaints for as long as people want them I guess.

I won't post any more on the topic to avoid this turning ugly.

Thank you Charl for all your hard work as admin, and all the hours you put in that give the rest of us so much enjoyment. Enjoy your semi-retirement ;)

well i must say charl you did a good job here at nzff ,with the good and the bad you took it all with a pinch of salt ,
i didnt really like the idea of this comp as i thought it mite turn out this way as alot of theses members where never at nzff 4months ago and if they where signed up they were not active as many many before them that stood by there forum when times where bad or got others to enjoy the art making movies ,building scenery . and started the nzff club , afcads,multiplayer events ,the list goes on from the true beginings of this forum to now ,its like anzac day {lest we forget our fallen }
the guys that run this stuff and the names are ones ive never see much of let alone see there work (proberly my bad )
there are winners there deanb, robin and ian and ofcourse yourself charls oh and not forgetting james who has been active and supportive to the forum from the beginings
a comp cant be run by ppl who cant remember the good old times of BM
this should of been run by admin, ppl who know there members.
are we still having the medal of the month ???

Shame to this this happen but the end of the day Charl is a FLIGHT SIMMER and has lost his way with all this admin stuff. Only problem is he is the best Admin we have and the most committed, What I dont want to see is Robin spending more time in this forum rather than producing some spectacular work. Like I said Charl is the best admin able to keep things in perspective and balanced.
What I find in most forums and to be honest that covers a wide field outside flightsimming, is that Flightsimmers get the most heated over a passion we are supposed to enjoy and often are the fastest to go on the defensive. In some places I could understand this but in Flightsimming it seems to be worse and escalates more.

Charl will leave a large hole in this forum leaving as a Admin one that no one can fill.

I'm Happy to help out with Admin if needed, got plenty of time on my hands at the moment, not going to comment on Charls leaving as I don't know anything about the reason behind it, but take care anyway charl.

Good show guys.
I'll ask that this not be a protracted discussion, perhaps open another thread if there's admin stuff you want to natter about.
Because now there's going to be a bit of time for other things.

Its unfortunate it has come to this, Charl was a great administrator, active, involved and and I think he had really got into NZFF.

Thankyou Charl, for the time that you have given to make NZFF the succesfull forum it is now. :)

I know how it feels to be the admin who has to make the tough choices, so I can empathize with you Charl.

Glad to see you sticking around though, you would be greatly missed if you left us for good!
