Having been a Beta tester for both NZQN and NZMC I know just how much hard work but also how much joy one gets from such a project.... Add me! I think Peter's work is amazing and very creative and he never just settles for the basics...

Can't argue with whats already been said above. Mount Cook is a must have.

Milford Sound would be great, especially if those of us still using FS9 can use it.
Testers are born to fiddle. What does this button do? Oh! Never mind.....

I think it is time now that I leave a statement here.

Thank you guys for all your support, it is very good to know that there is interest and I can promise you that I will finish NZMF and that it will be designed for FS9 primarily, simply because I can hardly run FSX. I will however make sure that there are all textures readable in FSX which should make it compatible with that too.

Everyone of you who have at least attempted to make scenery will probably appreciate what a time consuming hobby this is and how hard it is to find time to do it. I am sorry this is just draging on for so long as with my previous two sceneries but I want to get it right and as with all my work it will be finished.

Now without making any promises I should be able to get a large amount of work done in the months of July and August 07, which I am really hoping will be enough time to get NZMF completed.

Check back on my website where I will be releasing news and screenshots while I go.

Thanks again for your support!!!

Cheers
Peter

Good to hear your still continuing to support the Scenery in FS9 Peter.

I think its a bit presumptious of all of us to expects developers especially freeware to throw out scenerys just because we want it. If we want it so bad maybe we should learn the art of making them? That way we would have scenery covering the whole of New Zealand much like VOZ has done.

Its a shame to see so many long term developers who have been around for years stepping out of the simming limelight because of the release of yet another FS version. FSX maybe a great leap forward but in many eyes it steps back for people who have done so much for FS9 and to be honest FS9 offers more for the NZ simmer than the default FSX has. Maybe in a couple of years it will reach the FS9 levels of development but then will FS11 be out by then?

Look forward to your release Peter.

Well Peter, I hope you are motivated anew, as you can see there is an appreciative audience out there!
It's going to be a long hard winter, but we'll certainly look forward to the spring >nzflag<

G'day,
I run Tui McInnes's's's Milford Sound in the meantime. Its a darn sight better than the default NZMF, has apron, taxiways etc etc. Taking a fellow VA pilot in there was a comedy, as he didnt know the layout, and decided, after mature reflection, that a Lear25 ( 35 , 45 ? ) would NOT make it in on 29.

I have got DC3's in there ( Fred Flintsone brakes required ), and enjoy punting a Saab 340 in , but there is zero room for error.

I am sure Pete's NZMF will be well worth waiting for. His NZMC and NZQN are OUT standing !

Tui's NZMF is available from Avsim & Flightsimdotcom ( i think....check both )

I have done a RWY12 version of Waimate.......taking some artistic liscense, as in reality, there isnt much there. Also working on Oamaru. Have all the pix I need.......learning how to map bmps and bake bagels. Tricky for a newbie ( 3 yrs on the sim ) like me.

Dunno how you get a 747 in to NZMF mate, that dogleg would be a killer wouldnt it ??? I have enough trouble getting into NZQN ! ( I have only just started flying in there.... )

AS for " can a 747 use NZWN " .....well of COURSE it can ! But can it LEGALLY ( according to CAA statues ) use it with a USEFUL payload ? .....doubtful.......I dont even know if Qantas's SP series go there anymore, as 767's seem to have it covered. Its a gnarly question. I know a Qantas 747 once made an emergency landing at Hobart. As for getting it OUT of Hobart, well......lets just say that THAT flight didnt make Qantas any $$$ !
Hobart doesnt run an ILS ( as far as I know, might be wrong, would be the first time ) anyway. I run 737's in there when I do that flight. Approach is visual ( even if IFR FP is filed ).......just the same as flying in to Napier or Gisbourne really. ( or even Queenstown ).

If you are running a real 747 out of Dubai with an MTOW payload ( fuel & pax ) you will use TOGR settings and every foot of their 16,000 ft runway. Some of our Boeings go their whole flight career without using TOGR settings in anger !
Takeoff power settings ( even on the 200's ) are pre computed. But CAA cannot pass legislation saying its OK if your computations say its safe ! Thats NOT how CAA works ! That said, after the DASH8 crash coming into Palmy North a few years back, the odd kick up the backside does CAA no harm ( CAA had been told by the pilots actually doing the flying that it was a very bad low vis approach, and a guy I know happened to be driving that DASH8 ).

No simple answers huh ? At leat thats what makes flying fun. And Im just a sim bunny. My buzz box experiance hardly qualifies me to comment really.....but I do get to pick the brains of a couple of ex comm drivers ( 767 check , 747 senior ).

Cheers,
Toz :plane:

I must add my name to the 'wishers' for Milford, Peter. Your sceneries are exceptional.

I am using FSX most of the time these days for my own flying (although still developing happily for FS9, as that remains the major market) and Milford Sound itself looks spectacular enough with the GeographX 75m mesh... don't have the payware, I fear. I use the flatten Christian recommends to bring the airport down from 800 feet (wise move...) which makes the hinterland look slightly strange (too flattened behind the airport) but is essential.

With sliders maxed there are some bloody trees in the middle of the runway but, hey, NZMF was never easy smile.gif

I've always flown my own MF sightseeing Islander in there in the past but am now using Jon M's lovely Caravan repaint for the default FSX plane. Great work.

Hey, y'all.... what NZ airports have you successfully tested/used in FSX? I have not got to try Peter's Mt. Cook and Queenstown in FSX yet, but ought to. Anybody tried them?

Mark
