I do use Firefox on my PC though, as it is so much better than IE - no matter what version you're talking about.

IE's popularity has nothing to do with it being good. It is simply that it comes pre-installed on your average Windows PC and the majority of people either don't care about, or don't know enough to change it. IE will always be dominant for this reason.

And your post implies that nobody would prefer to use IE over FF.
The RSS feeder in IE is very good, printed pages tend to be more comprehensive, the interface is cleaner and I've only ever come across one website that explained it worked better under FF (and I think they deliberatley programmed it that way). Heck, if you have to rely on IE to run some websites, then FF has to be an inferior browser. I could go on, but I don't want to bore you

But I think it would be a fairly safe bet to apply your own logic to the sites that you claim will only work under IE - deliberately programmed that way

As to why I don't like IE... its bug ridden and FULL of security holes, it is slower, less standards compliant, and has struggled to do simple things like tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, built in search engines etc... I could go on but I don't want to bore you

Now I see that IE7 is trying to play catch up in a few of these areas, but even if MS did decide to do things properly - its still going to be hit by more malicious viruses by virtue of it being the bigger target.

I'm not saying that nobody would prefer to use IE over FF, just that there is a vast body of users out there who don't know enough to make an informed choice. That's not saying they are wrong in their habits, just that they are not technically minded and so will just stick with what they are given to use.

Firefox vs IE is similar to Mac vs PC. The majority will stick with what they know, or are given - a PC with IE pre-installed... and they'll never know what they're missing

Firefox mostly at home, but I notice that when I use IE for NZFF, when I get a message it pops up a window, this dont happen in FF, which sux. So I might use IE for NZFF in the future.

Only reason I said that was because it was a techie website and I figured they didn't want the 'unenlightened' to view it

Personally, I have no issues with IE bugs or popups, I find the tabs easy to use. In any event, most IE security holes will exploited regardless of whether you use IE or not, so why introduce another set of security holes with FF to your PC?

And you can't uninstall it (IE), you might as well uninstall FF and use IE instead, at least that would be saving some disk space.

Ah well, at the end of the day people will choose what they use based on their own priorities... in the end FF pushes IE to improve, which in turn leads to IE pushing FF to improve I guess

But just consider that the tabs that you find easy to use probably wouldn't have happened if Firefox, Safari etc hadn't done it first and forced MS to keep up

Firefox is a good browser as it stops annoying popups but that usually includes the one Jon's talking about.
If you want to allow popups from a website:

Click Tools - go to options and click content. There should be a box that is ticked saying "Block popups" leave it ticked. Click on the button to the right saying "exceptions"
Type up the address of the website an your done.

i am a firefox man, never go back to ie7, firefox is more secure, lets in less threats than ie. i mean i have downloaded all of about 2 security updates for firefox in the past year, and i have lost count on the ones for ie. so for me safer, less (read none) pop up ads,

A confirmed Opera user here.

Have used it since 1997 (even after it went payware). Simple, elegant, no code bloat, and not subject to "attack" (simply because it's a relatively "unknown" browser).

Only 2 websites I've encountered (to date) which does not accept Opera: Simviation (download page) and Microsoft's Update page. Then I have to revert to IE.
