I think Billy Connolly said it best "There is no such thing as bad language, only bad use of good language" I think that some of the censorship in todays society is really quite pathetic. There is no point in trying to shield everybody and pretend that these words dont exist.

I think in todays society we are all in one way or another surrounded by swearing in one form or another. As far as the forum is concerned,There really is no excuse to swear, after all we have younger ones to consider, and us older ones should set them an example :D Yeah right. The younger ones Probably swear more than us older ones.So that brings us to the question,What,on the forum is acceptable.I myself think that this is up to the administration, which brings us to the next question  If a member does use an unapproved swear word, what is to be his punishment <_< Oh I'm so glad that we have admin to sort this one out

I reckon we'd probably have to handle it on a 'case-by-case' basis, we're much too lazy to try and think up a decent benchmark rule.

I was somewhat surprised when looking at a nephews' essay he was doing for 5th form English that contained swearing. I was told that in this day and age this is not only acceptable but actually encouraged! That is when used in the right context.
Using the 'F' word every second word like some people do is not acceptable in these High School essays.
Personally i don't object as such but do find it unecessary and when used too often I feel it does expose a lack of a vocabulary and even a lack of intelligence.
Although I'm not 'offended' as such by the 'F' word and 'S' word I would say that the 'C' word is offensive to alot of people. Since we FSers are a pretty intelligent bunch we don't need such language and it is almost refreshing to not see alot of it here on the forum. The forum rules state that no-one shall use offensive language.
Over the years, since i was young I've seen the collapse of society in the languge department and now after 8:30pm we are subjected to it on our tv's constantly.
Even the Police see fit to use the F word as normal conversation. It's standard fair on any building site of engineering workshop, Aircraft hangars included.
However I would not like us to be too prudish and holier than thou and we seem to get by with f*** and the like. I see that TV presenters see fit to say 'freaking' or 'fricking' in place of the actuall 'F' word. Since we all know what they mean exactly surely it amounts to exactly the same thing and should be treated as such.
But it is not. I wouldn't want to be the one to test it out in court when addressing the Judge! But if you are repeating what someone said you will use the exact language that you heard. 'I don't use bad language around my kids,my 4 yr old boy is very impressionable and he hears it often and uses it himself and I'm constantly telling him off about it. He starts school in a few months and I don't think it will be acceptable there,he'll have to wait untill High School for that.
2 wrongs don't make a right but 2 Wrights made an aeroplane!

Using swearing outside of an example at my school in an essay would probably get you marked down.

I was somewhat surprised when looking at a nephews' essay he was doing for 5th form English that contained swearing.

Now that's funny, because recently I had to write an essay quoting Angela's Ashes, which contained the 'S' word!

In 6th form, my English teacher (who was also the deputy principle asked the class to vocalise quotes from the Shawshank Redemption, which we were studying at the time, and most of the class got to swear out load :P

Also, in 5th form English, one of our assignments was to create a visual representation of a phrase from one of Witi Ihimira's short stories, and I used the most racist/swearing line in the whole text (which was compleatly acceptable), and got a merit for it :o

I would not post something full of swear words, but sometimes it is so dang hard to replace a perfectly good word with a whole sentence to describe one tiny moment, or it takes away effect!
