Nice KAG B) I reckon it'd be great to have an aircraft fleet lined up all nice like that Massey shot in Nelson.

BTW, do the PM controllers have radar screens?

The radar screens are just the computer screens, beside the one with the weather on it (green stuff) is the radar, they can zoom out over the whole country and pick up any target (iirc from being in a tower last)

Yep thats correct, all controllers in NZ can access any bit of airspace in the country. :)

My understanging is that ATC can access any of the airspace that is covered by radar..........not all of the country is covered however......NZDN has no radar coverage of aircraft in its airspace, but uses radar from NZCH to see 'whats coming' from the north. Once the traffic has passed Moeraki.........they're off the scopes....but if its a strong wind in NZCH, the radar domes often get pushed over a degree or two......this allows aircraft in NZDN to be picked up (if high enough). Altitude is important here also. Everytower and air space in different.....Tower guy will know for sure. :)

Most towers have some form of radar available to them, for example in Rotorua they can pick up aircraft around 200ft AGL, but Mt Ngongotaha casts a shadow over towards the airport, so there is some limitation. ;)

AAhhh so that was you making all that noise above while I was having my brekkie.

Hope you made it down before the weather closed in. I just got absolutely drowned while out of the office at lunchtime. The staff room on the 4th floor looks out towards the hills and we could see the rubbish approaching.

Shows the difference a few hours can make. Now I can see clear blue sky again. Go figure.
