How to make a/c invisible

Hi guys- as some of you may know im working on making FSX into a GIS visualisation tool by putting in some high resolution data...the visual results have been great so far but, in order to make FSX look less like a 'game' and more like a tool i need to find some way of removing either the aircraft or the VC from the display (i.e. im only interested in whats outside....not the aircraft)

Ill then use Slew mode to navigate around the scene.

Any ideas on how to do this? I was thinking of maybe tweaking the Panel.cfg and removing various texture references but will this only work in the non-Virtual cockpit? (i want to use the view panning of the Virtual cockpit so that users can navigate to a point and then look around)

I was messing around with the "interior" and "exterior" modes in the model folder with a fs9 aircraft in fsx, I kept the original model but added the line for the interior A321 model.. lol as if it owudl work, in fsx it was jsut an invisible aircraft.

I think you can just delete the model folder, or mess aorund with it, and it may disapear..

But what bandit has linked to looks like just what you need :P

Have you used it? It says in the description that it is always at zero feet?
Im assuming that you can still slew up to altitude though right?

Looks like the one IF i can actually go up to altitude....

would going to 2D panel mode and pressing 'w' twice do the trick for you? that's how i take pics of the scenery in slew mode.

It almost does.....although i need to be able to properly look around (i.e. not just Forward or Back or Right or Left)

My 2c worth
In slew mode you can rotate any way you like.
Can't remember all the function keys but [Numlock]1 & 3 will rotate you, F4/F1 is fast up/down (in FS9) etc.
Might be better to rotate the whole a/c to look around so you go forward only in the direction you're looking. Otherwise you'd be looking left and forward would take you (apparently) sideways.

I haven't used the one above. So can't confirm whether it goes above ground level.

I have found another couple of things that may be worth a look.

I find the aircraft slewing a bit frustrating when placing EZ Scenery objects but I suspect that is more a problem with the user (ie: me).

Have a look around Sim sites for "Robert Finney" probably under Scenery Design and you may find more tools.

or if you want a method along the lines of what Hinch suggested (press W to remove gauges in 2D view) -
eg: Pan the outside view when in 2D cockpit mode?

Add this line in the FS9.CFG CONTROLS section:
PAN_IN_COCKPIT_MODE=1

Hope this gives you some options to explore.

here i seen a need made you a aircraft helicopter thats just a camera named timmos
it has what you need and is fully working for your needs i hope
