You get about 50m to the runway on the southern end (if you go next to the fence, it's only about 25m. You can now walk around and be exactly behind the runway but there are security camera's which makes me think it's illegal to do so but there's no fence <_< Let me show you in a picture:

The red x is where you are behind the runway, but I think that it is illegal to go there because of the security cameras (well I don't know that there are any there it's just that there is a sign) The blue x is a good place to watch aircraft land and a great place to catch approach pictures. The green gets you really close up and you can take close ups of aircraft on take-off and landing but it can be hard as you have to poke your lens through the fence. The orange used to be a good spot but since the building of the runway extension thingy (the gray thing) there's a huge dirt mound (not sure if it's still there) but you could climb on it

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

Sorry I just though I should post all this in two goes.

The yellow is a good place for 34 departures and arrivals.

The red is on a hill so you get a view of the airport also good for 34 departures.
It is also close to the control tower.

The orange is an area where you can have a picnic and watch the planes (really only good for 16)

The blue is elevated from the main road giving you the ability to watch 16 arrivals and departures without obstruction.

The green is good for underside pictures for 16 arrivals

Hey Monkey, just to clarify things...

Christchurch Control, Wellington area: 123.7 (All ATC "Control" facilities (i.e. not app/dep) are now called christchurch control apart from around Ohakea - even around auckland)

I think you are a bit wrong here, Auckland still has its own approach, as does Wellington as far as I can see on my maps. I know Christchurch controls the rest of the country, apart from Ohakea as you said...

Sorry to deviate from the original thread.

You could also try WN Approach on 122.300.

~ZK-KAG~ :)

EDIT: Im sure Towerguy will be able to help... :P

I like the hill with the wind turbine that overlooks the airport, a great overhead view of the airport with perfect scanner clarity

Another handy one is 121.9 (Wellington Ground), also 126.9 is Wellington ATIS.

Kag,you'll notice I specified that this doesn't include approach or departure facilities,as shown in bold.

just adding another spot, the hill in the red circle is good, but its a steep hike (good exercise :D ) and you need a good zoom if youre filming. good for 34 landings/departures
