Performance will always be a major consideration when I'm designing a scenery. With Tauranga the performance needs to be tuned using the scenery density setting. (Although actually removing the boats has helped with some people.)
Marlborough may be the same -- running it with full display settings may only work well on higher specced machines.
However lowering the settings TO MATCH YOUR SPECIFICATIONS should give good results. This is normal, and the way it's meant to work.
There's a fine line between scenery complexity and system performance. Whenever I add an object to a scenery it will affect performance slightly. However it does add a lot to the 'value' of the scenery. We already have high-performance, low detail scenery, it comes with the sim. I can work towards making the scenery perform well, but a scenery with hundreds of custom objects is never going to perform as well as one with a couple of default objects.
At the moment I'm benchmarking the scenery on my own system. This is three years old, so represents low specifications quite well:
Athlon 2600XP
1GB RAM
Nvidia 5900 128MB video card
Provided your machine can comfortably run the sim normally, you should get usable performance from my addon scenery provided you adjust the display settings accurately.
Robin can I suggest you include all the FSX upgrades for your real NZ subscriptions in the last CD?
