Making AFCAD's

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Alex » Fri Mar 16, 2007 8:09 pm

Hi guys,

I think somewhere I've heard of an application that you can create AFCAD's on, does anyone know where this can be found? Or am I thinking of something else.

Thanks guys,

Alex

Yip, it's called AFCAD by Lee Swordy.

It comes with good documentation. It's not hard to find either, it's on Avsim I think ;)

Final and current version AFCAD 2.21. Unfortunately, Lee Swordy has retired from Flight Simming. Also worth grabbing his Ttools as well. For compiling and decompiling flight plans for AI aircraft.

Is AFCAD 'future proofed'? My understanding is that it will work with FSX but doesnt use XML based scenery? (in other words it probably wont work in FS11 when they switch to full XML based scenery)

Can someone clear this up for me?

I want to make some taxi ways for FSX more easily (have written XML for the apron but it would be a mission to do the rest)
Cheers

This may be of use for those wishing to convert FS9 AFCADs to FSX

The site has lots of other useful tools.

No its not future proofed, but seeing Bandits post it could be that they could be made in FS9 and then converted? A pain in the bum but an option until an FSX specific utility is developed I guess.

Today I saw a screenshot of a new AFCAD-look-alike program, but for FSX. It'll make XML-files and then using a program called XML2BGL.exe then convert them to BGL files, ready to use i FSX.

Screenshot can be found here: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4671

This is brilliant news and exactly what we were looking for. Anyone working with the beta yet?
