Quick Repainting- is it that easy?

I have the POSKY Boeing 757 model in the RNZAF colours (posky_757_2k2_rnzaf.zip), although I find the grey colour to be distinctively different from the real aircraft.

So, what I am wondering is, is it possible to simply replace one colour with another (ink dropped from a photo I took) in photoshop (My Dad has the full CS version, although I mainly use Arcsoft Photostudio for my editing).

What I have done so far is use the fill colour to replace the dark grey, but it leaks in every window on the fuselage and looks crap, although it only took a few seconds and a conversion through DXTbmp.



Any help would be much appreciated. This is for my own personal use of course, I am not about to go editing and reuploading the authors work behind their back- cheers.

sorry no help here the only thing I can think of is using a colne brush of some sort

sounds like you'll have to cut out the area you wish to paint with the lassoo tools. i'm guessing the original has gradients for shadow/light but photoshop will only fill in the same colour you've clicked on with similar parameters to the magic wand tool.

the better option would be select all the area you do NOT want to change. reverse the selection (select > invert) and go to imager > adjust lighting > brightness/contrast.

or, do as above but select a new layer. invert the selection as before and fill with the solid colour of your choice. next go down to the layer palette and choose the effect 'multiply' that will allow the underneath to show through. depending on colour 'overlay' can also be used.
