Computer freezing

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby brownbox » Sat Mar 03, 2007 8:22 pm

My computer keeps freezing, requiring me to press the reset button to get it working again. I havnt done anything today except play Need for speed carbon, some San Andreas, and did some homework. But tonight, I was checking the forums, and the computer froze. I thought, wow what a coincedence. I restarted, carried on as usual, and it happened again within 10 minutes! I have scanned for viruses, spyware, re scan, disk defrag, hard drive, ram, everything. Everything came up clean. Any ideas?

Also, I do not wish to be told Im an idiot, or that everyone is getting "tired" of my threads which I supposedly "filled" the technical issues forum with

Maybe try restoring to a point where this was not a problem? That might fix it. :)

Good luck,

what type of frezing is it?

I noticed when I played aorund with that little "vodotool" programwhen I first installed ma graphics card, turning the bus speeds and all that up then useing fs the system woudl lock up, but it was more a frezing of the image sort of thing..

Perhaps its started happening threw wear of your graphics card ageing, and not related to anythign you actuly did during the course of the day... ;) try taking the graphics card oput and running with jsut the intergrated or something..

Could it be heat related? Take the side of the case off and blow a desk fan into it and see if it freezes.

Alternatively bring up the system error log (right click 'My Computer' on the desktop, select 'Manage', then look at 'System Tools / Event Viewer'). There should be 3 logs there, see if any error codes show up and Google them.

Good luck!

RAM might be faulty. if you have 2 or more sticks try just one at a time to see if it's the problem.

i tested the ram, and all came out fine.

It just froze again now, while I was playing FS. I am thinking it could be heat? It seems like its something power related, but I doubt its the power supply, seeing as I just brought a new one, and its been going fine all this time...

I dont see anything out of the ordinary in those logs, and the errors that are in there, happened at completely different times.

Ill try clearing temp files, emptiing recycle bin, and so on. I will then try a system restore. Maybe tomorow, I will go ahead with cracking a hole in the side of the case... B)

Actually, now that I think of it, Craig was having the same problem. He took the side off his box and chucked a USB fan near it so the fan sounds good to me
