Avalon Airport

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby scon » Mon Feb 26, 2007 7:21 am

I have just about completed a small scenery file of the default Avalon Airport in Victoria Australia (Avalon is about a 15 minute flight from Melbourne International). The Scenery is very sparse in the default so I put this together while I know it is not a New Zealand this airport the location of the Australian International Airport happening this March and NZ take a few aircraft across (e.g. 757) so the FSX airport now represents an Air show Environment This is for FSX ONLY it should hopefully be on Avsim by the end of the week.

Hi um well thanks for the offer but I just uploaded it to Avsim, it was never designed to be 100% realistic but just to enhance the default it was made only using Abacus's scenery editor which only uses default objects.

But thanks again for the offer

So it should now be on Avsim

Installing scenery isn't really that hard, and if you have a computer that can handle addon scenery then its very much worth taking the time to install it :D

Heres a basic guide to installing scenery that I wrote for alex's nzfs website's how too section but never got around to editing and uploading, it might help you :)

1)Open up the folder you have extracted and have a good look threw all its contents. You will often find a "readme" file yet some of the instructions in these can be complex for the beginer or non excistent!  heres what you will proably find in the file you download:

".bgl" files, its quite likely these will be in a folder called "scenery".

".bmp" files will often be amoung many other file types. And probably in a folder called "texture"

2)Now goto your main Flightsim folder (unless you chose some were else during fs install it will be "C:\Program Files\microsoft\FS9) and open the "Addon Scenery" folder.

3) Once inside "addon scenery" create a new folder called whatever you want to call it, A good idea to name it the name of the area thow or else it could get confussing.

4) In this new folder create a "Scenery" and a "texture" folders.  Often with a scenery download there will be two folders called scenery and texture in the .zip file you downloaded.  If there is then simply put the contents of them into the Scenery and texture folders you made or you can just drag the scenery and texture folder into the folder you made in the addon scenery folder.

5)Once you have done all that start up flightsimulator and goto the settings menu.  click the button for "scenery libuary".  Once in this dialog box click "add". you will now have a box showing your main fs9 folder, so go into the addonscenery folder and click on the folder you made there in step3.  Do not open this folder, just have it highlighted.  click the "ok" button then click ok again and then exit fs.
