Yes the one dangerous stunt you could ever simulate :o

I miscalculated my flight from YSSY to NZQN and arrived well after dark :( Lucky for me I got a Runway 5 approach and worst still I was running on Fumes. Still dont feel comfortable following waypoints in FS that are way off with differant mesh etc from default  Oh yea now I forgot add realism setting to max with Crash Detection on and I can guarentee a scarey approach especially with Landing lights out and only taxi lights working :ph43r:

Palm Sweating approach and 2 miles out engines failure but even with the heavy landing I did not crash. FSnav was off as well ;)

Thought it was a fluke so tried it again and ended up a fireball

wow that was lucky, but the "scary" landings are certainly the best, not seeing the rwy untill your nose gear touches down whilst handflying (o so ilegal but its a sim :P ) is far better than seeing the airport from you TOD hehe

btw I don't actuly find the terrain around nzqn to be that dangerous in my fs, I always just fly straight in.. hmm

Hey James, I was flying around there not 10 minutes ago. Have you got the 75m mesh? It makes the terrain more realistic (and more crash-into-able). It also depends which way you fly into QN from. From over lake Wakatipu it's easy, but I know what you're saying, it's not really that bad in the sim. I think its more of a real life flying thing, because you don't fly as close to the terrain when you can help it.

Take a parachute and jump! Don't worry about the plane -- that's what insurance is for! :P

And where is the fun in simulating a interesting approach if you take the easy way out ;)

Remember

Night

Low Fuel

No landing Lights (just taxi lights) might as well have been none

And running between some nasty hills :ph43r: of course i could have added gusty winds, rain, zero vis etc but thats no fun then

Nasty weather adds to the thrill I find, especially low cloud and minimal viz.

Yeah, I got the mesh, I think the unrealisticness has to do with ther being a massive cliff of about 1000feet down from the airport to the lake, unless of course its like that in real world

On the subject of nzqn, can someone please explain how the approach charts like this one should be understood and used? Can't find any of those waypoint in fs, many a flight spent scratching ma head about this.

James
I just checked in VRC, those waypoints do not exist in the traditional sense. Maybe because they're for approved operators only, only those operators have the waypoints in their AIRAC/whatever.

On IvAc I've got RATPT, WALPK, and AFTON, however the two first waypoints are not standard, as they can't be 'said' easily, unlike almost all others, like KALDI, DUBON, TIREE, PAPTI, ELNOS, KALAG etc. :)

Exactly right, the waypoints are in their AIRAC databases.
These are recently approved RNAV approaches, you would select it through the FMS arrival and departure page so if you have a FMS equipped jet and are willing to spend the time make the arrival for the SID STAR database you could fly it in fsim.
