GMAX clipping problem

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby TonyP » Thu Feb 22, 2007 10:02 pm

I have been building GMAX models as per the methods described on Windowlight, but I have run into a problem with my modelled airport.

Parts of the terminal and the surrounding area seem to be clipped for unexplainable reasons. The main terminal is never clipped, nor some particular objects, but an overhang on the terminal and the main carpark seem to disappear quite frequently when in the center of the cockpit view.

Anyone encountered and/or solved this issue?

Nope - very basic models, very basic texturing.

The wheels of the trolleys, the overhang on the terminal, and the carpark all get visably clipped. The main terminal and the trolley base's never seem to be visably clipped.

The overhang is named 'TrolleyShed'
The carpark area is named 'Line01' and the islands in the carpark are 'Line05'
The entire trolley is one object named 'Box01' and 'Box02' - the wheels of the trolley are not seperate from the body.

I should add that some of the objects in the scene have been 'attached' to other objects to make one object - and in other cases I have created a boolean compound object from two objects. If there a more recommended way to modelling for FS9?

nope that sounds right, look I aint much on the scnery side of things but the only other thing I can think of is perhaps you ar doin LOD's and your missing a LOD model for that distance?

hmm.. thats a good point. Sounds quite plausible but I don't see how I can set the LOD's that are generated using XML and BGLComp

I learned how the LOD works with GMAX meshes - but it didnt fix the problem.

But, I have figured out the problem. The objects which are disappearing are not textured, they only have a diffuse color. Once I assigned a texture to them, they seem to work fine.

I can only assume this means that all objects must be textured.
