The whole of the North Island is a volcanic region don't forget that Taupo was the biggest recorded eruption in history the base of the volcano in the Taupo eruption is essentially what we now call the Kiangaroa Plateaux and the lava flow created the Wellington and Wiararapa regions.

sorry to let you all down but there really wasn't any earthquake in AA at all!

I had mexican for dinner - my apologies and I'll try not to do it again!

But really - I go back to work this avo and will be interested to see how the tower went. They had people working on it last week grinding the rust out of the steel supporting rods where the crumbling concrete has left them exposed! Gee I feel SOOOO safe. :(

can't wait for the new tower we are supposed to be in within 5 years from now!

I didnt feel a thing... How disappointing. I like earthquakes, its like going on the thrill rides at the fair, but you dont have to pay ;)

I live in Dannemora... and nothing moved. No glasses rattling, nothing falling over, the cats didnt even stir.

You wont believe this but a friend from overseas read the story online and sent me a email telling me how dangerous New Zealand was becoming with the Earthquakes, Volcanoes erupting and Lahars  They also said they were reconsidering visting us because of the danger.

There was apparently another one at 2323 at the same place, depth of 7km, and 3.8 on the old richter scale.

3 earthquakes in 1 day, and i felt nothing......

I'm originally from Levin... and have been in quite a few... I think the biggest was around 6.5 or 7...

As the area got a lot of shakes, after a while you get used to them I guess... I have even slept through a few, others I woke up but could not be bothered getting out of bed because they were so minor.

My mother on the other hand would freak out at the slightest tremor

Guess your still young huh?

Felt so many of the things over the years you get used to the minor ones like this. The Big one has not happened yet and well nothing I or anyone can do when it does arrive just ride it out. 1995 whilst most of you were still in nappies :) My father and I was sweeping Volcanic Ash off Roofs and wondering what effect the light dusting of ash would do to the animals on our farm.

You have more chance of your roof caving in on you during a violent storm than a Earthquake. Civil Defence pump it into you enough about being prepared but unless you have been there then you wont appreciate it.

Yea, (strong) earthquakes can muck around with the foundations, but chances are your roof will be fine. :)

yea but you know what i mean saying something is fun that has the potential to kill people roof falling down was just first thing that came to my head. Little tremor could be a volcanoe erupting and you will all die

Haha, you Aucklanders should be sleeping safe in your beds, who lives in the (almost) destructively active geothermal area here? :P

Sorry to burst Aucklands Bubble but Wellington had an earthquake that was 4.4 yesterday at 1:00 pm and from the auckland earthquake, the earth quake people got a couple of hundred thousand worried phone calls. yesterday in Wellingtons earthquake there were only five or six.

Isn't it evident?? Boeing are my favourite aircraft.

P.S. that's is my real birthday but I wish to keep my real age secret to keep you all pondering.

Guess better cancel the trip up to Ruapehu this weekend to see the chopper then ;) Might get swept away by the lahar or burnt alive by the lava flows ;)
Better still never go to Rotorua again beause its smells bad and I might get coated in hot scalding Mud or camp at the shores of Lake Taupo just incase in awakes  Did I mention heading over to the Naki?

Kelburn you are so right! I am just wondeing how many people dialled 111 to report the tremors? What you do forget is that South of the Bombays its not important :ph43r:

I am laughing my head off at the media feeding frenzy over 3 minor tremors when last month several tremors hit an area near Gisborne, yet it got a small mention  Not to mention the concentrated swarm last year near Wanganui.

Harden up Aucklanders

Heh
Wellington is sitting on a 9 meter strain lock at the moment, I'm told.
That means that when it lets go, the Beehive will immediately sit on Queen's Wharf.
Better hope the Aucklanders are still empathetic about earthquake thingies then :P
