Hey guys I'm having a problem with Dell over arranging my new computer with high specs, they told me they would call me in 2 to 3 days and that did not occur, they have the correct phone number to call me on and I have called well over 10 times trying to get a-hold of the person at Dell I was dealing with and it has been over 2 weeks since I have had a response from them, In the weekend I called their main 0800 number and left a message for them to call me and that has not occured either.
As you can probably tell my frustrating problem has made me willing to ask other companies what they can offer me on high spec cheapish computer, so if anyone knows of a good computer company that I can get a quote for a new computer can you guys tell me :ph43r:

If you know who you were dealing with, then ask to speak to somebody higher than them (e.g. a supervisor) and tell them how slack the service has been to date.
This could be fruitful, or they (the supervisor) could be equally as slack. If the latter keep working up the food chain until you get some joy.

If you decide to "vote with your feet" and get a PC somwhere else, take pleasure in telling the Dell guys why you are not buying from them.

We had a little delay with ours as well, so we rang them up about a week after they said we would have it, and they gave us an extra 600mHz (I think - or similar figure) free on the processor and two extra years on the warranty then we had it get to us about 4 days later. :D

So, what I would do is quote your order number (I'm presuming you've already ordered the PC) when you call their main number and give them a bit of a chase-up. ;) (oh, probably call them during NZ business hours as well, 9-5 Mon-Fri)

Why not order online? Its a lot easier than over the phone in my opinion. ;)

YAY Dell finally called me back after 2 and 1/2 weeks and 10 messages later and they are now emailing everthing I have asked about to me and they have offered a couple free upgrades because of the massive delay the upgrades include a better graphics card, processor, RAM and now a 360gb hard drive

I bought a Dell some years ago, and had no real problems getting it, but then I configured and ordered it online. It arrived within a few days. It has some very nice features in tems of accessibility - the case hinges open by pressing to catch-release buttons, all the cards are held in place by push clips etc. but non-standard RAM as well as a non-standard PSU and MOBO has meant I now have a sidelined low spec machine that can't be upgraded (it's now only good for office jobs, plus ServInfo/Teamspeak). On that basis I won't get another one.

if im correct, this is the problem with some compaq computers too isnt it? With non standard, weird parts that cant be upgraded.

They're very well built, too, unfortunately.
My 486 Dell doorstop is still perfectly capable of instant boot in WIN 95
