Chopper time

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Well some mates and I intended to head to the Ureweras in November but the weather had other ideas. When we arrived at Murupara we were greeted by low cloud and strong winds up high.

A quick call to Helisika back near Taupo and we were set to get into the Kawekas. They were able to get through the valleys since they're based at Poronui right on the park boundary. Since we use them a fair bit and have done for a number of years they sharpened the pricing pencil really well.

Some of the boys head to one of the blocks.

Not much room. There was quite a drop in front and behind

Home for a few days

Typically the best weather of the trip was the day we flew out.

But that Sika venison tasted great.

Yeah - I must learn how to do repaints as there are a few I'd like to do.

So...wait. Is the first one a Hughes 369 like I thought or is it an MD-500? And how do you tell? Yeh, I'm not a chopper guy.

You won't easily tell by looking at it.
As the company changed hands, so did the handle - Hughes, McDonnell, Boeing....
MD500 belongs to international bean counters trading on the ghost of McDonnell Douglas.
It's a bit like Lotus Cars in the UK, now owned by a Russion zillionaire.
Colin Chapman is spinning in his grave.

Not to highjack the thread: great pics Bandit, gives a good feel of the outing.
You a regular hunter?
