RNZAF are at it again

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

hey everyone

not many people know but the rnzaf are now looking at something to replace the leased king airs they have so we probably be getting piper cubs lol knowing them
how they bought 757 to protect the country instead of f16's lol and then scraped the skyhawks and can't even sell them to anyone now and costs the country every month to keep them in storage lol if you go to www.airforce.mil.nz and go to projects it will say on there they are looking to replace the leased king airs if the air force keeps going the way it is now we will have the ct4 airtrainers with side winders on them to protect the country lol

Yeah its not a good idea to have a country without a good air defence. They can't sell the A4s as the US government has blocked the sale with red tape.

What's wrong with the king airs? IMO, they shouldn't even talk about the king airs until they replace the Bell Sioux...

Good call Monkey.

If I look out my window and the trainees are up and about it's like watching another M*A*S*H rerun.

Though we are getting some new choppers soonish. We also had the civvie Chinook fly over home Friday morning, maybe Auntie Helen could lease it.

yeah the uh1 are being replaced by a nice helicopter the NH90 and rnzaf pilots are being trained on the nh90 at the moment but we are only getting 8 of the nh90's so when the nh90s enter service the uroqouis will stay in service as well because knowing are airforce the nh90 when we get them they probably be all broken down lol like at the moment we only have 1 orion that goes the rest are being upgraded in america or broken down lol

I believ the RNZAF want to reaplace the King Air 200s with newer King Air 350s or Q200s (dash 8s) (or Thunderbird 2 clones !) and add martime patrol/survelliance to their task.

The Sioux will probably be replaced by Agusta 109s as it is the only helicopter that meets their specs (max 3000kg empty weight, twin engine, retractable wheeled undercarrige etc)

still reckon AH64 longbows for the police chopper! no more long drawn out car chases and drug raids would be 1 push of a button followed by a bulldozer for cleanup

what does NZ need an airforce for? i don't know the politics i'll admit, but i don't think anyone wants to attack you guys! does NZ 'lease' its troops to america like all the others?

actually thinking about it, sweden and switzerland though politcally neutral will attack anyone in their country and have mighty airforces...

i think the UK RAF just does airshows, any fighting is for the navy pilots.

The RAF is shut between 5pm Friday and 9am Monday, so it's rather lucky that the Bad Guys never invade on (say) a Saturday morning...!
