Texture Issues

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Postby Chris Donaldson » Fri Jan 05, 2007 2:52 pm

Hi everyone,

Well I'm back online in the forums after the past months troubles, and I have a new problem to go with it.

I've done few flights out of the smaller provincial airports, like Whangarei & Nelson. Now at Nelson I have wat appears to be grass textures overlapping the runway, and making it difficult to actually see the runway.

Here's some examples:

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this problem?

Thx in advance.

Have you guys changed mesh? Thats happening because the ground isnt flat, looks like you need a flatten area.

I have to take the blame for this. It seems that the tool I used to re-create the flatten files has introduced some sort of rounding error.
To fix this, you'd need to put the default flatten back. These changes were made by the Real NZ Wellington installer.
The files you need to change are located here:
Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\Ocen\scenery

Find the file called FL994460.gvf and rename it to FL994460.bgl

Find the file called gvf994460.bgl and rename it to gvf994460.bak

(You are just changing the extensions here.)

The Wellington flatten will revert to the default, which will make it a little less effective (there will be a chunk taken out of the hill above the airport) but it will still work ok.

Whew, I noticed that this had happened after I installed RNZ NZWN, I just hadn't got around to complaining about it yet. :ph43r:
Thanks Robin. :D

Robin
How far does the flatten affect things?
I have Ian Wingman's NZNS which apparently is not affected.
Is this effect part of the same issue - north east of NZWN

It doesn't usually matter but if you fly low and slow it sort of jumps out at you.

I too, use Ian Warren's Nelson, and i have no problems with any scenery bleeds etc. I must say though, after a real good low and slow look around, i cant find the crevasse that seems to afflict Charl's scenery nort-east of Welly...........

I also have that slice in the scenery, but it also extends over onto the south Island
it cuts a nice long line through a few of the islands, can't locate it at the moment but this is the general area you will find it (may go looking for it later on)

Hmmm, I've had reports of this at Picton as well, which suggests that it is a byproduct of an addon Ferry scenery -- the slice may be the path of the ferry. Any thoughts?

Just removed the "Cook Strait shipping NZ" scenery add-on, and it fixed the problem, thanks toprob, though I like having the AI shipping and can live with the glitch in the scenery.

I'm sure it wouldn't take much to adjust the AFCAD to match the more accurate topo. Whose scenery is this?

Howdy,

Was in the process of correcting the InterIslander Ferry "flightpaths" just prior to my rig blowing its powerpack (3 weeks ago now). Understand the techies will reinstall a new one early next week, so until then ...

Well done Robin, that's right on the money.
I may have "infected" many users with my first bad upload of GNZLAP AFCADs which included NZ01 - NZ04 (I think these are the ferry AFCADs)

OK Dorian you have until 27 January B) after that I'm on the case

Howdy,

Yes 'Sah!

(Actually, 2 of the AFCAD's are already done, it's just that I cannot access them.)
