FSX White Island

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby ZK-Brock » Fri Jan 05, 2007 7:14 pm

Hi guys
White Island has now been given steam in FSX! Go Here.

File Description:
This scenery will add steam/gas and ash emissions to White Island volcano in the 'Bay of Plenty' just off the coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Also includes a sound file to add a little bit more realism.

I'll give it a try. Makes me wonder though, is anyone working on a scenery for Whakatane airport? I just love that crazy terminal building!

That is pretty cool! I didn't even know Whakatane even had an airport! I thought it would just be a grass strip! Does it have a sealed runway! It must cost a pretty penny to have a runway sealed? :plane:

Here in the UK, Bristol airport has just paid £17 million to have its 2011m x 46m runway repaved, lit and grooved! But there have been complaints, as the grooves haven't yet been cut, and Easyjet are cancelling flights in wet weather because "the surface is too slick"!

If you mean grooves as in long, undulating humps 90* to the runway, Easyjet HAVE to start a service to Motueka

White Island has now been given steam

Yes thanks for that, downloading now.
Watch out for soundfiles with scenery though.
I had one for Mt St Helens which rumbled all the way to Victoria BC :P
I couldn't remember where the installer put it and ended up uninstalling all N American scenery to get rid of it!

Was this for FS9? If so, may you tell me a link to it?

I have the Hovercontrol Columbia River Gourge scenery which includes mesh for the expoded Mt St Helens exploded crater with lava flows all down the surrounding area. (See the Exceptional Sceneries outside of NZ thread)

can you have non flat runways in FSX? I'd love to see the north strip on motiti done - I flew out there with sunair when I was controlling in Tauranga and its a steep uphill left(?) curve.

Yes! The problem at the moment is the development tools to do that dont exist, at least thats my understanding.

Has anyone tested it? Any good?
Im tossing up whether to do my own for the White Island Scenery im doing.....or just use his.
But im a sucker for realism and White island is pretty silent even when you are on the ground looking into the crater. Being able to hear it over a a/c engine seems a bit silly to me?
