Wanganui Runway

Just starting to do some flights and just finished one from Paraparaumu - Wanganui. Came in with a good approach (for me) and was dismayed to see the sealed runway slowly roll up like a carpet to reveal grass. Is this normal at some airports or is there some way to rectify this?. I presume I would have to get a "RealWU" program?.

It's an AFCAD issue, and happens to me at many airports. Woodbourne is a particually bad one for me, havn't landed at Wanganui ever- I'll go try it and see if I have the same problem.

EDIT: You are not the only one with the Wangaz problem:

I am using the default afcad for the airport with Red Baron 20m mesh and topo- there may be a conflict there

Thanks for that. I am new to FS and am slowly learning by asking questions. Perhaps you could explain the term AFCAD to me. There are lots of these terms and I guess I will sort them out eventually. I noticed at Masterton if you go off the runway you drop down as though the runway is raised above the surrounding grass. Is this the same problem?.

First question Are you using the GNZLAP Afcads?

If so then the qoute of Read the manual comes to mind as Charl has pointed out a exclude file thats needed ;)

Its at the bottom of the Readme in GNZ LAP Pack31 :)

Related question but how can you move the entire Airport over to the left so its in the correct location in relation to Christians Rivers and Roads?

Dreamweaver. Thanks for those comments they are real helpful.Suggest you read my comments about terms. No doubt someone will point me in the right direction.

Sorry about that. AFCAD is what the flight sim community refers to as Airport layouts, I never really thought about questioning where that Term came from?

I would suspect the masterton problem is related to how the AFCAD (Airport) sits on the Terrain mesh (ground). Which mesh are you using? The problem with microsoft FS airports is they only work on a flat ground principle. Hence the need for Flatten commands.

Slowly learning these terms myself.

I am using 20m mesh. Regarding the various terms I was hoping there might be a reference them somewhere but I have searched the various Forums and Google to no avail but I will get there in the end.

Can you enlighten me about GNZLAP and AI in Sim language. Thanks.
Is there a reference to these and other terms anywhere?.

Pat
AI traffic is moving scenery, usually planes or boats or (rarely) ground vehicles in FS9, not under your direct control.
They are made to do this by means of traffic files which can be decompiled into 3 plain text component files:
aircraft.txt, airports.txt and flightplan.txt
These describe what moves from where to where.

Lee Swordy created Traffic Tools which allows users to compile the plain text files into a .bgl file which the sim understands.

He also developed AFCAD which is a programme allowing a user to modify airport data.
AI traffic requires a parking space at start and end points, plus taxiways and runways.
Often stock MS airfields don't have all this in place so AFCAD is used to create the data.
Sometimes existing airport data needs to be modified to suit the addition of AI traffic, e.g. to provide suitable realistic parking areas.

You can search the major FS sites for tutorials and in-depth discussions on this whole topic, which is not trivial and can take up the rest of your life if you really want to get into it.

The GNZLAP is an AI project for NZ General Aviation.

Charl,
Many thanks for that info which is much appreciated. This Forum has been a real help to a newbie like myself. Cheers,
Pat.
