737 in downtown Auckland

A place for 'real world' pilots and aviation enthusiasts to discuss their hobby

Last night I was driving in town heading past the docks by Mechanics Bay and I saw a Boeing 737 sitting next to the fence!

It was white and had some black writing on the side, I thought I could make out the word 'Trainer' on it but I'm not sure.

Anyone know why this is there and has arrived in Auckland via sea rather than by air?

haha, that's a weird thing to see. did it have wings and everything, or was it only the fuselage?

Might be some sort of aircraft for airport fire crews to train on, and not certifiable, therefore has to arrive by sea. Thats my bit of speculation.

Was the aircraft sitting on its wheels or on an external trolley?

Did you jump the fence for closer inspection? I wouldn't imagine a flyable 737 would be shi[ed here for service, itd be quite a challenge getting it too the airport! Would need very big truck.

Will get the wife to check it out as she works downtown, saw it Thursday and it had trainer written on the side, no wings and also missing the tail section, but the tail section was capped off and connected to something externally (aircon, power source??)

Was planning on stopping but traffic was murder and really wanted to get home.
