OC Video card

The place to ask for help or solve each others technical issues and discuss hardware

Hi
I currently have my Geforce 7600GS Overclocked from 450/1000 to 700/1400. Quite a hefty overclock as you can see. Apparently, overclocking reduces the components life, but I was wondering how long would this be by?

I also heard that by OC you video card, it is only reducing its lifetime if you have insufficient cooling. My video card is running at 36 degrees when overclocked, and it gets to around 45-50 when its under heavy load for a couple of hours.

I will most probably upgrade my video card in a couple of years anyway, but just wondering how long exactly will it last?

true...

let me re-phrase this. If I am going to upgrade in two years, am I likely to get any nasty suprises with my card packing up during this time?

I suppose it would depend on how much you overclocked it. ;)

There is a Law that says:
The warranty period expires 99% into the planned obsolescence of any well-designed product.
Why should overclocking produce a result any better?
Your card will expire before you planned to replace it, guaranteed.

so if i plan to make my current computer obsolete in 2010, then it won't fail if i sneakily decide to upgrade it next year?
Excellent...

ive had mine over clocked for about 8months at the highest clock speed for it ,there is a big differance to the cards performance, ive had no extra fans cooling just what the card comes with ,its still going strong ,if it doesnt stuff out the minute you overclock it or within a month or 2 you should be ok for awhile ,now i look at it like this, it could just pack up and ill need another ,i get for my money 130$ when overclocked ,a pretty high performance g/card and ill upgrade cards every year at lest or until a better one comes down in price ,performance is everything when it comes to simming and gaining flps really that is what its all about isnt it,
another note is that overclocking is not recomended at "ALL"
know what you are doing!! ,dont do it!!! if you havent got money in your pocket to go out and buy another ,You Have Been WARNED!!
